Gentlemen, what would it take to completely eliminate the need to loosen the action screw for removal of bolt/BP? How much do you think this removal every time you want to clean your ML,effects your accuracy? I am sure one of you machinist oriented guys have already addressed this. I just cant find that thread. Thanks

2 Ways
A poor mans solution is to grind down the end of the screw so that to bolt slide out freely/ I only recommend this option if you are a very "aware" type person. This option will create opportunities to lose your bolt if you forget that you filed the screw and turn your gun muzzle up when your bolt is open.
The right way to go is to have a third pillar mounted in your gun. This creates 2 points of contact that never move allowing the loosening of the rear action screw with no effect on POI.
I use the first option and it works really well and I haven't tossed by bolt yet in 3-4 years.

The only other way I have seen from time to time is a socket wrench used with a head that is either for the old style plug or the new hex head plug. You can remove the breach plug through the bolt opening without removing the bolt. It may require some sort of jointed socket attachment to work I can't remember?

I recall that RB had some kind of spring loaded plunger he made up. I think the threaded portion stayed put to hold the action in place and the center was spring loaded and you pulled it out to release the bolt.

Add a third pillar or bed the gun. I personally haven't experienced accuracy problems after removing one from the stock like others have but I bed the action first thing. Mike

There used to be a man that used to advertise on the top of this board that had a great tool at a reasonable price I have one and if I knew he was going to stop producing I would have bought a couple more. Jon

I take the screw out that holds the bolt in and my accuracy is not affected.
