I went hunting with both ML's yesterday, my PacNor and son's stock .50 with shorten stock. I am loading the son's stock .50 with 35 gr of N110, 200 XTP in a dark blue MMP sabot and Federal 209. The shot was 110 yards, broadside high shoulder shot on a 125 pound doe. She was DRT, no exit wound. The speed on this load is 1880fps with very little recoil about the same as a .243. I field dressed only and will try to get pictures of performance when we skin out. I think this will be a good load for youth, females or someone wanting to avoid excess recoil. Also cheap for the youth to practice with as the bulk 200 xtp are less than $20 for 100.

You will probably find that you had excellent performance in terms of how the bullet handled the task. At that speed, and range this bullet probably was in its' zone. Probably held together, might even have exited and probably didn't blast too mush meat.

I'd see what 38-40g of 5744 does. Use a wad between the powder and the sabot.

It should mimic my 45x40 BH209 load pretty well im guessing. Any chance Reloader 7 would work in a light 50x40 range load also without drilling or washers? I wont have any n120 for a couple of weeks.

I'm a major believer that when the working pressure is well below the normal pressures used in cartridges utilizing any given powder, that temp sens will manifest itself. Those powders just mentioned all would have that problem, IMO. I do think that 5744 would work well and have a very low recoil. Using VV-120 in the 20,000-22,000 psi range would be problem ridden IMO, including ignition problems. I do think the 2 choice powders would be 4759 and 5744 but not VV-110. You do need to keep pressures low due to sabot/bullet concerns.

This is in the same ball park as I used with 4759 and a 200gr XTP using those dark blue sabots. Worked well up to about 41gr with excellent accuracy and mild recoil at the mid 30s levels. I used 4227 like this with good results until I had a couple misfires with it at the range with it and then switched to 4759. Good choice out to about 150yds anyway.
