I do not understand why one sights in with a foul shot 3 to 4 inches out and the next 3 shots are touching. The first shot is the one that counts and the others fallow. I shoot my first shot dead on and the next 2,3,4,5 and so on are in the same group. A clean barrel should not mean you are off target. I dont see this happening with my setup. My first shot is the same as the 6th or 10th.

If the barrel is in nearly identical condition for the 2, 3, 4, 5, etc., shot, there shouldn't be a need for the fouling shot. But for a slightly moist patch, followed by a dry patch between shots, my barrel seldom gets cleaned. But when it does, it NEEDS a fouling shot or two. Same with my CF's.

Its not bp the barrel is what the barrel is, its not changing diameter. i shoot a lot and i zero on the first shot and everyhting else behind fallows. a fouling shot means to me one is not fitted Sabot wise properly or other if sabotless etc. temps may contribute however, it should be consistent as long as loads are the same.

Can't speak for others routines but my gun gets cleaned after nearly every range session. I don't patch the oil out before I shoot the first shot so the first shot is always out, with both the .45 & .50.
Sabotless in the .45 takes a few foulers before the gun starts to group tight, the quantity of foulers also seems to change with the bullet, BE's group after 2 shots, the 250 FTX needs 6-7 shots.
My .50 seems to shoot best when it is swabbed with alcohol between shots plus seating resistance seems to be more consistent with this routine.
Each barrel seems to have a personality of it's own.

Of all the advantages my smokeless 10ML-II has over my Encore when I shot Pyrodex or 777 out of it, the fact my first shot out of the clean barrel of my 10ML-II is consistantly only 1-2" off of my dirty barrels POI, and nothing to worry about as far as causing me to miss a deer's vitals. Now with my encore and Pyrodex or 777 I was any where from 5-7" high with my first shot out of a clean encore barrel.
But WOAD, my 10ML-II will acheive its best accuarcy on a fowled bore.
