See if I can do this with out upsetting the mods. My 45 ML 700 with a bolt/breech plug conversion and shooting *** of **** pushing a 200 xtp in a blue harvester shoots pretty decent. I've been experiencing misfires today. It missfired on 1, shot 10 or so without a hicup and then misfired 4 or 5 out of 10. Not a big deal at the range, reseat the load and recap, then boom. But it ain't the way it's suppose to be. I got to scratching my head and replaced the vent, problem gone. Now this doesn't sound right to me, I always knew that to large a hole made for poor accuracy but the bigger the hole I would think more fire, more fire should be a better flame channel and there for a more consistant fire (I always figured the accuracy thing was because the larger hole made pressure differences). Now I assume that the powder charge is being pushed by air in front of the flame to where the powder charge is to loose to go off. Now following the thought does this incident question the bulged barrels because of the charge being moved by the 209 and then going off. The 2 that did pop were fizzle pops. Oh well anothe leason learned

See if I can do this with out upsetting the mods. Why would a moderator be upset? Unless you are posting triplex loads then post away! Mike

Mike the reason for the mod thing was that I'm shooting smokless in a Stock ML 700 with hunters bolt conversion. Tar 10x

I see why you were not posting. IMO that is dangerous if the barrel is not for smokeless but to your question. if the vent is too big it may not be focusing the heat from primer to ig night powder. I think of it like this, if you are using a torch to cut steel you have to get the flame right to get it to cut. I could be worong but it works for me. ;D
