The seller received my payment and said he would try to get in the mail today. I hope it shoots as good as it looks. The previous owner bought it but never shot it. Then sold it to me so he could get things for reenactment events. Ive been over all the load data and tips section here already and noticed very little n110 load data for the Barnes 300gr Original. I would be happy with just 2100-2200fps. Will VV N110 be ok or is there a reason im not seeing much data beside it being listed as a recommended powder by Savage for 300gr XTPs? I will be using Lehigh vent liners and Win209s mostly. I use his vent liners in my modded breach plugs in my Knights and CVA so i want to stick with them. Is N110 hard on vent liners because i would really like to use it since my LGS stocks it. I just mainly want a Barnes O load that will beat 120gr (volume) BH209 loads by 100-200fps and a load that has nearly the same FPS. Bascially breaking the 3000fpe barrier is good enough for me if it shoots well, so 2150fps would be a fairly good starting point according to my calculator. BTW is the MLII-BP breachplug ok for use with smokless? I noticed the BP version uses this plug or is there a better plug available? Thank you Savage NEWB ;D

Look in the load database for 300gr bullets and N110. I think the range is 38-43 or 44 or so. I shoot 42gr of N110 in my .50 and get 2300fps with a 250gr, pretty sure expected fps with the same load and a 300gr is 21-2200, right where you want it. N110 is a great powder, temp in-sensitive and ignites easily. Search for posts by sw on N110, he has lots of good things to say about it

Thank you, about 40-42gr is where i wanted to start and i will try some BH209 in it so i have something for a comparison. I noticed many other powders are used but they are using a fair amount (60gr+) measured vs 84gr of BH209 measured and therefore not much savings on the cost of powder....That is when i get BH209 for $20 on sale.
Im not recoil shy either, my GMB54 shoots 50-385gr Rem CorLok with 120gr of BH209 by volume and kicks like a mule in the 6.5lb gun.

GMB,
Do a search at top of page for n110 loads--you should find what you need there.

VVN-110 is one of the best powders for the Savage 50 cal. in my opinion. Burns clean and gives good velocity and accuracy. If you have a source for it locally it is a good choice.

hmm the thing to keep in mind, is BH is 10 ounce verses 16 ounce in the regular powder, so there is a MAJOR cost savings there.

Well it arrived today ;D
I noticed the breach plug is the 3/8th hex head type like the Cableas BP version.
Did Savage change the MLII over to this type of breach plug also? It is supposed to be the most recent model.
