Hey Guys, just started shooting our 10ML11's (a buddy also bought one) and have roughly 50 rounds in them. Just wondering if there is some need to worry about inconsistent breakage of the petals on our MMP sabot. Sometimes they are completely intact, other times 1,2,3 of the petals are broke off. Any comments would be appreciated. One other thing. Another hunter I know uses Teflon tape instead of anti seize on his breech plug. Anyone else doing this? It would be cleaner, thats for sure. Thanks for your help and good luck hunting.

Lots of guys here using teflon tape with good success. If you are getting good accuracy and it's just the petals that are sheared but the bases look ok and are not blown or in pieces, nothing to worry about

if it's getting good groups don't sweat what the petals do after they leave the bore, yep I'm using white teflon tape (double wrap) with no problems

In regards to the Teflon tape. You use it because it is cleaner obviously, but are there any other reasons? Possibly keeping the breech plug tighter etc? ? Thanks

I have a Pete's Stainless BP. I use the yellow teflon tape on it. Seems to help keep the fouling lite on the bolt face. I also put a few drops of Rem Oil on the tape before screwing the BP in. BH

Please explain what Pete's breech plug is or where to get them please. Are they better than the original,or just better because they are stainless? Where do you find the yellow Teflon tape? Thanks

I think the main reason people use the tape is simplicity and no mess as there is with the various anti-seize grease, etc. Don't worry about the color so much, it just indicates primarily varying thickness with I think white being the thinnest, hence the double wrap recommendation above.
Pete is a machinist that has made different breech plugs for various priming approaches for some. Your stock savage plug will serve you well.

Losing sabot petals IMO is not a sign of sabot failure. Some of my best loads lose petals. Most of my MMP Orange 458 loads almost always lose them
As for Teflon tape, there is also a grey made for stainless and if you can find it, it works great. On vent liners i still use a tiny bit of anti seize made for stainless from the auto parts store but on the plug threads i use whatever Teflon tape i can get.

How do you clean the teflon tape out of the barrel threads after removing the breech plug, or does it all come out with the plug?

How do you clean the teflon tape out of the barrel threads after removing the breech plug, or does it all come out with the plug? I use a 12 gauge nylon bore brush to clean the breach and barrel threads on my Knights. Im not sure if it is long enough for a Savage action though or if the same gauge brush will fit.
