Hi all - I'm new to the board and new to Savage muzzleloading. I've read a few posts on here about the screw on the front scope base bottoming out and I'm having the same problem. Is it as simple as just grinding down the screw so that it does not bottom out? Also, the recoil pad on my new gun does not fit snug in the stock and has a cut in it. Not that this will effect performance, but I wouldn't expect that in a brand new firearm.
Thanks in advance for any advice on the scope base!

Welcome to the board!
The screw is just as simple as grinding it down. Be careful not to bugger up the threads of the screw and then try to force it into the receiver threads and bugger up both. Sometimes they will send you a shorter in the pack. What brand of mounts are you using? I have a piece of aluminum flat that has threaded hole for the mount screws to hold them. If they fly out of the vise grips they are a bear to find.
You can call Savage customer service and they might send you another recoil pad. Doesn't hurt to send a email or call Joe and ask.

Thanks rossman40. I'll grind the screws down.
Just after I joined here and made the post above, I found an email for Joe DeGrande on here, so I sent him an email on Sunday afternoon. He actually called me last night (Sunday evening)! I was blown away. He confirmed that I just needed a shorter screw for the front and discussed my issue with the recoil pad. He immediately offered to send me a new pad! I couldn't believe that he not only called me so quickly, but on a Sunday night! I made sure he knew that I appreciated his quick service and I will make others at Savage aware that I am 100% impressed with their customer service.

Joe is THE MAN when it comes to customer service and goes the extra and got me hooked on Savage.
You do not have to do all the screws just the front one on the front mount. This one is shorter due to the barrel threads.
