Shot this 11 point yesterday at 4:00pm. I was literally still strapping in and getting my release on when he appeared and headed my way in a golden rod feild. I was 25 ft up a tree on a very small ridge and between him and I was a small ditch clogged with wild apple trees and other heavy cover. When he was still 70 yds away, it looked like he was going to kinda mill around and probably keep going to the west, so I gave him 1 soft grunt. He stopped, looked my way, and slowly walked towards me. Luckily he chose the right side of the tree. Shot was about 15 yds max and I centered the on-side lung and clipped the edge of his heart. Went about 50 yds. Love the Montecs, 3rd deer with them Not sure what he scores or how to score him. Another thing is that this is a young deer with a small body and stubby nose. I'll bet he didn't weight 150. Not uncommon to kill a 250 pounder out here. Should have let him go....would be something else in 2 years. Disregard the camera date

Congrats on a nice one! I would think the outer splits on the brow tines are the deductions from the looks of him.

Let him go... right! That's got to be at least 3 1/2. I finally got out last night and spared a spike and an "enhanced" spike. Congrats.

Would have to be awfully good to score a deer like that before deciding to pull the trigger. It is much easier to score when they are in your hands for sure.

I'm not kidding about his body size. It's weird. His eye-to nose measurement would be beat by many button bucks. We nicknamed him the "ELF" buck. Sure made his rack look bigger then it was. When I called my buddy after watching him tip over, he asked how good he was. I said he was OK with a lot of "stuff" going on. I also said...Geeez I think he was kinda small body wise. I cut him up today and his backstraps were so small....like a 1 1/2 yr old doe. He was smelly too.....stunck bad. The kids (in college now) are going to render him next weekend into a few hundred burgers for their George Foreman grill. These guys, cousins, are going to school for forestry and are rooming together. They have a cottage on Canandaigua lake that they rent during the "slow" season. They have one of their Dad's boats, a dock and what not. Livin the good life for sure for a couple of young bucks. Burgers are served every night. Wonder if they drink beer

that is odd? did the meat smell too? did you find any old injuries? maybe an infection? well the kids probably wont be able to tell. beer covers all.

Congrats, Wilms
Now that you broke the ice with this nice buck you can be picky and hold out for the big one.
