Helped a friend set up with 66grains of H4198 and a 300grain BO. Stock 50. Its really shooting good. What kind of pressure? I know it falls in the middle of RB's recommended range.
Just curious about cold weather performance. I have no cold weather experience with this combo.

Confident and simple answer - I like it! Thanks - It will get used this winter.
I know in my 45 at 63 grains there is no issue.

+1.... This is a great cold weather load....I've shot it down to zero with no problems...My favorite load in my .50 is 67gns H4198 and the 300 BO or the 300Rem HP. Zen

I thought I read that there are some ignition issues with H4198 in cold weather (meaning -10C to -20C for me).
Am I remembering wrong on this? I have a whole jug of H4198 that I haven't used yet and was going to try a duplex with 4759, but if it's not necessary I'll work up a straight load and hope for the best come December...
Paul.

I use IRM 4198 and only shoot a 200 gr bullet in a 45 cal and have never had a problem. Just make sure you have a tight fit and well seated bullet and it should go bang.

Paul...........10 gr. of N-110 under 60 gr. of H-4198 has been a solid performer for me in the .50. 2450 fps and low ES's with good accuracy; 300 Rem. Richard

Somebody has to put a fly in the ointment.
I have had ignition issues with straight H4198 and cold temps. Like 20 below F or so. Way too cold for sane folks to be outside. I dropped a few grains of H4198 and mix a few 4759 in and it ALWAYS goes bang. I was using 300 gr Hornadays.

Youp... -20 is serious cold as jeremy said....When you added the 4749 did you layer it [duplex] or did you just mix it up? Might be a good insurance policy if I decide to go insane this year. -20 is doable but the 30 mile an hour winds that usually comes with it is tough to handle. Zen

I use CCI 209M primers. I used to use HPH 12 sabots with a 458 bullet. It took somewhere in the vicinity of 100 pounds to seat the load. I have since moved to the BCR sabots and they seat a bit easier. I give the powders a good mixing. Then they are stored in a 7mm WSM case and capped with an ear plug. The powders are compressed and should never settle out. I sacrifice some 150 fps by not layering (according to another member, I have not checked with my chrono. He is an honest and forthright person giving me no reason to doubt the validity of his claim.) This image shows a 250 gr Barnes X and supplied smooth yellow sabot. This is simply what works for me. There are many good ways to duplex and layer the powder. Zen, Several dollars worth of charcoal heaters stuffed every place you can think of help. A face mask is absolutely necessary. No exposed skin.

What brand is the red speedloader? I like that it holds the 209 primers too.Good idea about the shell case.

Traditions.
The WSM case does limit the load to about 66 grains.

Richard Thanks Richard, but the I believe the most popular powders around my area is the 4759 adn the H4198. I have a 1/3+jug of 4759 and a whole jug of H4198 (I got them when I bought the gun) so that's why I was thinking of those two powders. Paul.
