Personally, I would start with R7 or H4198 instead of I4198, and I would use CCIM for Fed 209A primers instead of the W209. I had several misfires with I4198 and W209.

BIGGDADDY, i recomend book powder for you to start. they are proven with little ignition issues. I recomend VV N-110 @ 42 grns. that is an accurate load out of almost every gun. if you can get it. or go with any of the book loads(except imr 4227 IF its still a book load). another popular powder is AA 5744.

Might be better to stick with a double based powder for hunting conditions, 5744 is one of the more forgiving powders, coupled with a hornady xtp or barnes mz-expander.

All are good choices. My go to load is 43 grains of 4759, Harvester short black sabot, CCI 209m primer, and the 250 grain Hornady XTP. The main thing is to get a proper sabot/bullet fit for YOUR rifle. It should load with some resistance but not with 2 fingers and not inching down with all your weight on the loading rod.

Savage tests all their barrels using 43 grains of IMR4759, 250XTP, MMP short black sabot, use a mag primer too. This load will usually shoot under 2" @100 yards. Speed is 2250 fps or so. Mike

Bullet would definitely be the .458 300gr Rem with a Harvester Black Crush Rib sabot.
Book powders: N110 or IMR SR4759, more speed than AA5744. 42gr or thereabouts of either N110 or 4759.
Slower powders: 10X, Rel 7, H4198
I like the Fed 209A or CCI 209M for primers.

Remington or Barnes Orig. 300 gr. bullets with Harv. Black crush rib sabots. Powder choices are VV N120,H4198 or Alliant 5744 powder. CCI primers. Very potent deer loads with pass thrus & blood trails-if you need it. ;D
