First off where can you buy wool wads? Mid-South? Dixie GW?
Second, are they treated with any kind of lube that will affect powder if it stays in contact with the powder to long?
Third, other in improving ignition in sabotless loads, does this also help reduce sabot plastic fouling in most rifles? I would think it would as it should reduce the flame/heat contact with the sabot base therefore reducing the deposited plastic from the sabot base. I would also think that it allows a bit hotter load if you so desire by protecting the sabot.
I know it's one extra step but for those who still use sabots do any of you guys find a sub base or wad (wool or paper) is benifical for shot to shot accuracy?
Thanks, Smokepole50

I shoot sabotless and have used both wool and veggie wads. I think the veggie wads work marginally better for me, but both work OK. The wool wads I used some were wax impregnated, some were not. I liked the wax lubricated ones best, but couldn't say they actually worked better, or worse. The lubricant was not excessively greasy so I would think it should not affect the powder. I have only used wads in a sabotless application so I can't speculate if they would be useful under sabots.

Today's sabots are formulated pretty tough and there are not many here that have a large issue with plastic fouling.
As far as will a wool wad help reduce plastic fouling, probably not as a wool wad gets blow to bits on ignition and is really just for sealing the bore to get proper ignition.
A veggie wad would probably get forced into the cup of the sabot throwing off it's balance and causing inaccurate results, but may help a little with the reduction of plastic fouling.
The best thing you can due to reduce plastic fouling is to clean the bore very well and use a product called JB bore lapping compound to help smooth out the roughness of your barrel. If you do a search on this board for Barrel lapping you will get good info on how to do this.
Another thing to note is there is no need for a sub base or wool wad to help not blow a sabot or improve accuracy. I would not use either to get hotter loads to shoot. Today's sabots are pretty tough especially the harvester sabots, and if you are blowing sabots then back down the load not strengthen the sabot is the moto on this board.
Hope this helps,

Okay, Just asking for opinions in a attempt to reach a point that can not be reached with out going sabotless.
Thanks, Smokepole
