I purchased a Savage after a less than positive experience with an Encore. First several range sessions were disappointing. Groups of 7- 8 inches were the norm...when they all made it to the target!. I blew a few sabots before I realized what was going on(thanks to this forum). I added the third pillar and bedded the action with Devcon. It didn't make the improvement that I was hoping for. I noticed that when I went to clean the barrel on several occasions, the breech plug was loose. Also during a recent cleanup process I noticed that the vent liner had opened to .035. So I installed a new vent liner and wrapped the threads with Teflon tape and used tape on the breech plug instead of anti-seize. I stepped away from the "book" load of 5744 and 300 gr XTP's, and measured out some reloader 7 to use with 300 gr Barnes originals with black crush ribs. As this rifle is for hunting, I also held the forend in my hand which I rested on sand bags. Yesterdays range session yielded a 1+3/4" 3 shot group @ 125 yards! I will shoot it again tonight to verify that it was not a fluke.
This long winded description is essentially a thank you to the founder of this forum and all of you that have posted your questions and answers here! Without your shared info, I would still be stumbling around wondering why my projectiles didn't make it to the target!
Thanks, Bill

That combo of RL7, 300 Barnes and BCR Sabots has been proved to be a winner many times over. Expect excellent results in the field also. Zen

62 grains right now. I probably won't mess with a winner for now, ML season starts next Thursday. I shot it again last night and had 3 shots in 3/4", then the fourth shot dropped down an inch and a quarter. I want to work on my shooting and loading technique before I change anything with the load. I would like to shoot @ 200 + 300 yards to see what happens at those ranges. Ultimately I would like to get the Barnes 290 EZ's to shoot this well in this rifle.
