Last Sat I went to the range to work up some loads using Reloader 7 and Precession Rifle 260 gr saboted bullets. Loaded up, no go. Busted several primers trying to make it go bang****nothing. So I went home pulled the plug and pushed the bullet out and dumped the powder out. There was a bunch of rine that looked like plastic at first I thought maybe a curd and I couldn’t remember if I had cleaned the gun the last time I brought it home from the range. The breech plug was not plugged with carbon and the primers seemed to be good I tried both Winchester and CCI. History: I measured out a bunch of loads about two months ago, could the powder have taken on moisture? They were in 7dram glass vials with caps and also the vials were in Zip lock bags and the bags were in my plastic range box which also has a seal and the box was in my house. I didn’t think that would be a problem. I have used this powder with some other bullets about three months ago with good success. OK here’s the kicker. Today I went back to the range with a, for sure clean gun, expecting to have solved the problem, I used the same powder and bullet. Same result. Even had the plastic rine or curd or whatever you want to call it. I’m not sure If I should dump the powder or what. Any Ideas would be appreciated. For sure I will go back to basics next time with fresh powder, If this turns out to be a powder problem I don’t think I would go into the woods with reloader 7 and feel confident.

Wrong powder for that bullet/sabot combo. In general PR bullets don't shoot that well using smokeless powder. Most guys had misfires like you are having. Try a faster powder like 5744 or 4759. Good luck, Mike

Is this because of the fit of the bullet/sabot, I'v had great success with a BP substitute BH209. Why would the bullet keep the powder from firing? Is the powder starting to ignite but can't sustane ignition without increased pressure? I don't understand?

You do need a snug fit.Smokless powder needs pressure to burn.Billy
