I found a load 46 gr VVn110 and a 250xtp that shoot excellent out of my rifle, at what point do I stop, will 48grs shoot better or will that be to much. If I go overboard will I just start blowing sabots? ?? Thx for the info Killit

If that load works for you Id quit. You are about at the limit with that powder. Mike

Killit...........thats a great load. SW turned me on to it a couple of years ago and it shot good for me. I think I clustered 10 shots under 2" at 100 yards. Velocity was in or around 2400+ fps. Richard

Recognize when you have arrived. You are there. No need to risk more pressure when you have a load that will do the job you want it to do. Adding more powder increases recoil and all with risk of damaging your rifle, self for no gain. I am on oxygen and have found that some folks thinks if two liters is good four should be really good. They have taken some of these thinkers to the graveyard. The advice I got at your point was to concentrate on keeping my knife sharp for dressing the kill. Good advice.

I use to shoot 44gr of N110 with 250 XTP then with the SST/SWs in 2003. Before 2003 with the old sabots 44gr was about the limit unless it was like freezing. The sweet spot was 42gr then the groups would start to slowly open up. I thought giving up a 1/4" was worth the extra speed. Then with the continuous "refinements" I found afterwards the spread was a lot more. I didn't need the speed with a bonded SW so I went with accuracy.

My line of reasoning follows Rossman40’s thought. With an original book load of 4759 producing 2300fps there is no need for additional velocity with the best accuracy found here. I have more than enough hitting power out to 200yds and my cross-hairs never leaves the deer’s body. Also by keeping the pressure lower I have a nice safety margin to enjoy. To me there is no justifiable reason or gain to up the velocity for my application.
