I see a lot of people here using Harvester sabots. Is this because they work better than MMP sabots or is it because they can be bought cheaper then MMP sabots?
I looked around on the web last night and it seems HPH MMP sabots are hard to come by except from MidSouth and their selection is not a complete MMP line. Does anyone know if the BLACK 50 cal MMP sabots Midsouth sells are the -24 or the -12 model?
So, why do you use what you use? Since most here are shooting 45 caliber rifles I am guess it is because I don't see a 45 caliber HPH sabot listed on the MMP sight. Why is that??? Does MMP make the BLUE Harvester sabots???

Smoke, Harvester- Black Ribbed- usually used for .457-.458 bullets in a 50 cal barrel. " - Short Black- used with .451-452 bullets in 50 cal. " - Red Ribbed- used with .452 bullets in 50 cal. " - Blue Ribbed & Smooth Blue- used with .400 bullets in a 45 cal barrel.
MMP - Orange- used with .458 bullets in 50 cal " - Short Black Part # 50045, HPH-12, HPH-24, and EZ-Load 3 petal (All are black)- Used with various bullets in 50 cal. You just have to try them with your selected bullet to learn what best fits your barrel. There are several I am leaving out, but maybe this will help. There is a post somewhere with good pictures of the sabots. Maybe in Tips and Hints. Boarhog

The HPH on Midsouth looks like the HPH12 but they could be 24's depending on whether the photo is a picture of what they are actually selling. Midsouth should be able to verify which sabot they are selling. I have shot both the Harvester long black and the HPH 24, can't really see any difference in accuracy between the two in my .50 cal. The Harvester will shoot loads without failure that will fry the MMP. In the .45, the Harvester grouped better than the MMP. Harvester makes the light blue sabot everybody uses in the .45's, not MMP. MMP makes the tan sabot that comes packaged with the 195 BX and the SST's. I believe BH is referring to the picture in this link. dougva.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Savage&action=display&thread=9947

Midsouth sell the short MMP and the High Pressure MMP. The high pressure is the MMP HPH12. The only place that I have found the HPH 24 is directly from MMP or the 20 packs of the 300 gr sst comes with the HPH 24.

Have others seen this.........the NMP sabots not holding up to the same loads that Harvester sabots will hold up to?
I recovered a few of the HPH-24 sabots I shot the other day pushing 275gr PBE bullets with a 85 gr load of BH209. The base is very flared and begining to crack. I was one grain above the recomended MAX load but I am not sure the sabot could take much more. All the pedals stayed on so maybe they will take a bit more punishment if I chose to push it a bit higher then 85 gr. Then again the HPH-12 might hold up better to the upper end loads because of a tighter fit with the Parkers.
Maybe I need to get some Harvesters to test as well.

Smokepole, The Harvesters are indeed tougher critters than MMPs.As a added benefit you can expect a 50 fps to 150 fps increase dependent of load, using the Harvester crush rib and the Fed 209a primer.I will not use anything else....

I agree with Dave W & Tar12 that the Harvester sabot is the better sabot especially when ambient temp gets on the rise higher than Fall hunting conditions. If the HPH-24 sabot shoots decent for you then the smooth black harvester sabot shoots better IMO.

Thanks Guys.........
I took the new Accura out yesterday for some range time after a short squirrel hunt. The groups improved using a few Knight HP sabots I had left in my bag from experiments with previous ML's. Right now I have high hopes for the Harvester's I ordered from Midsouth on Friday. The groups have already shrunk down to just over a inch but it was hot here yesterday, 80 degrees, and I think things might tighten up a bit more when the weather cools down and stays there.
I give a good report with pictures when I get this Accura dialed in.
