Buddy's ram rod spring in his synthetic savage is either broken or dislodged. We'll be taking the action off the stock in a few hours to check which, has to be done, but just curious, when we put the action back in how much will the POI likely have changed? We'll try to match torque by feel, no torque wrench. Thanks

I would actually think........very little if any! When you think of it, the barrel is attached to the action and scope to the action. So, if you tightened one more than the other, you would probably just change where the whole set up is pointing........in relation to the stock. The only problem in my mind occures is if the recoil lug is not tight up against the abutment. Just stand the stock in the upright position prior to tightening. That way, the recoil lug should be against the abutment. You can even put some force downward on the barrel to secure it against the abutment as you tighten the bolts. Richard

Well I'll be... Turned out the problem was that the front pillar bolt was about 1/2 a turn loose. Torqued it down, ram rod seats and stays perfectly again.
Is this indicative of any issue to be aware of? Or most likely just not fully torqued from the factory? Rifle has probably 20 shots on it, if that.

I would put some loctite on it.

That's what I suggested. He's going to keep an eye on it when he shoots, if it starts to come loose again, he'll loctite it for sure.
Suprised me that just half a turn loose was enough to let the ramrod fall out on it's own weight.

If you decide to Loc-tite the action screws, I suggest using Low Strength. You may want to remove the barreled action from the stock some day down the road. Boarhog

The screw was probably never tight from the factory? Man, I shoot tons of shots and never torque and never had a screw come loose.........in my gun that is If you are going to torque it, I would not lock-tite it? Check it after your next shooting session and see if it loosened? If so, then the "blue" lock-tite. Just my opinion. Richard
