I talked to Pete and he said he can make the Breech Plug in 300 series SS. He said you have to take a little of the vent liner head 75 thousands to fit his Breech plug. He can do that for me which is great beacuase i do not have the equipment. I need some feed back on this breech plug. Is it worth the money? i was quoted $95.0 that is a hefty price for me right now and when i mentioned it to my loving wife i felt some negative posture that i am spending more money on what she calls "toys" I can justify the cost if i have factual confirmation of others. The vent liner thing does bother me though.

Whats wrong with the OEM Savage plug? I ordered a new one and when it arrived it was poorly made threades were terrible. They sent me another, but I am dissapointed that my SS laminated came with a hardened steel breech plug. I expected a SS, but to answer your question nothing so for. But i thought that when you ordered SS everything would be SS. Is it worth the expense? I dont know thats why I am asking. Same can be said about the vent liner.

I bought a Pete's Stainless from a board member. It is the bushing type, so no vent liners. I like it pretty well, so far. I have no idea what Pete charges for a new one? BH

I understand your expectations were not met, neither were mine when I recieved my first stainless gun. I do not think the price of a stainless justifies getting one as the OEM plug will do everything the stainless one will.....no one see it so it is just a matter of preference and how deep your pockets are! I have one OEM plug that has in excess 6000 shots on it and a lot of those shots were with 5744. Keeps on ticking....

I’m with Richard and Tar12 that a factory plug is sufficient and all I have used in my SS Barrel. Your more than welcome to go the extra cost if that’s what you desire. I would prefer to take additional monies and look at recessing the vent-liner. Now IMO that’s an improvement.

I looked into it, mainly because at the time you could not get a hex head. You just can not beat the factory price and now that a hex head is offered why go to the extra cost. He is offering to trim you down some vents now but what about down the road?

The hole for the ventliner is sunk up to .750in. towards the primer end putting the powder closer to the primer. Some have gotten better accuracy and more consistent ignition with powders that previously were hard to ignite. Only drawback I've found is it's a lot harder to get out a stuck ventliner. It can be done on a drill press with a skilled user but a mill is the sure way. This was a popular topic about 1-2 years ago, you might try a search.
