Tried to use the search and had no luck so I'll just post. Has anyone had any luck with the Barnes 290grain T-EZ FB in their regular Savage. What powders tried and have you used the sabots that come with the bullets. Thanks a lot............... Buckey

buckey, some guys have had trouble getting consistent accuracy with the solid copper barnes. They are devastating terminally though, so are a great hunting choice if you find a load your gun likes. Get a tight sabot fitting sabot and a slower powder like 2015, rl7, 10x, 4198, etc, is a good place to start.

buckey,
Sabotless they are by far the most accurate bullet I have tested, I have fired a whole bunch of them, have about 500 on stand buy. Rick Bibby load 53grs H4198, wonder wad I resise them to .450.5 All my nickel, dime and penny killing was done with that bullet and that load....enough said, It also kills 1500 plus pound animals Marty

buckey, www.randywakeman.com/savage10MLloaddata.htmRandy Wakeman has reported some success with this bullet. He has a few loads listed on this page. The nice thing about this bullet is having the option to use a different sabot to get the right fit in your barrel. Where the old TMZ bullet is a boat tail bullet which needs a sabot designed for a boat tail. A tight fitting sabot will be key in getting this bullet to perform.

buckey, i have been shooting the boattail NON T-EZ (yellow sabots) version for a while and i get good accuracy out to 100 yards consistantly. I tried the T-EZ and could not get proper ignition with H-4198. the fit was too loose. i have not experimented with other powders YET, but i plan on it as soon as i get the time.

First a Lee .450 than Lee .449 knurl to 450.5. But that for my barrel, please remember I lapped my barrel to that size You would use the first two steps than knurl to your barrel size. I like a tight fit, one that needs a lot of pressure to seat the bullet. Good Luck and Best wishes If I was you I would rather take directions from Richard than me, he knows why it works I just do it.

Clarification please: I believe buckey is talking about getting these things to shoot in a .50. bigmoose is talking about sabotless in a .45 which has little relevance to buckey's original question and 53 gr H4198 would be sub-anemic at best in the .50.
FWIW, my buddy gets excellent results with 63 gr Reloder 7 and the TMZ (with the boattail) in his .50. I suspect it might also do well with the T-EZ (flat base).

buckey,
I trust you don't think I was trying to mis-lead you, The first word in my answer was SABOTLESS. I'm going to look up the meaning of relevance to see if I some how offended you, Anyway, I wish you great seccess in the coming season, I'm sure you will enjoy hunting with your Savage. Marty

bigmoose, think of it as not applicable to buckey's situation. We all know that you are not out to offend anyone. I just thought it might be confusing to some so I wanted to make it more easily understood by all.
