I have a new optima magnum and was wondering if there is a certain load that will shoot well in this gun. I really don't know where to start because I am just getting started good in black powder. I was hoping that the optima had a load that shoots good in most of them or a good starting point and advice how to dail it in after the starting point. All advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the board!
Most all muzzle loaders will shoot very good using 80-100 grains of powder and a 250 -300 grain bullet.
If you shoot pellet powder like Pyrodex or Triple 7 usually two pellets and your bullet of choice will give you good accuracy out to 100 yards.
I dont own a CVA but I'm sure someone one here will clime in and give you more details. Mike

The first time I shot my Optima to day. 100 grns BH209, Powerbelt 245 and 223. They printed pretty much the same. They all touched, or almost at 50 yards. For a 76 yearold Geiser, that ain't bad.
