Personally my Savage shoots all of them [Winchester, Federal, CCI mag] equally well. No difference in accuracy and all three light em up equally well. I buy what's in stock at the local gun shop....I think most lean toward the CCI's. Zen

Okay let’s talk primers. My choice is the Cheddite primer. It’s hotter than the regular 209 primer but not as hot as the magnum primers. I’ve always had good and consistent ignition under all weather conditions. No issue of primer sticking on the bolt head or fit into the primer pocket of the Breech Plug.
As long as I don’t get a bad batch I have no intentions of changing. My next choice would be CCI primer. Thats with any powder but for now 4759 is my choice of powder.

The Fed 209A are the hottest followed by the CCI M. It has been proven over the chrony to get a few extra fps out of these 2. I personally like the hotter primers for the little extra peace of mind in the winter time. I use the Fed 209 A exclusively.

( which i have benn using) Fed 209 A is standard or are there others?

Fed 209A for the reasons Tar mentioned. The CCI M might be a little tougher and I have substituted CCI's for Feds trying to tweak loads, really can't see any difference in the two.
The Feds might be a little tight to get in the primer pockets of some breech plugs but a size C drill bit will take care of the problem.

Dave W and I were just talking this last weekend as I was thinking of making a switch to the Fed 209A's.
But I use Remmys STS just because I have about 15k of them for my trap shells. I have not had them fail to light up any powder yet.

The only primer I can make work in my old 10 ML are the 209A and I reccommend them. In rifle reloading I have found federal magnum primers of any variety to be most accurate in any cartridge and I have to believe that it would have to account for some of the accuracy I have seen in my 10ML. Mine is shooting 225 FTXs touching at 100 yards and 1.5 inch groups at 200, when using any other primer I cannot even make it fire without a delay, and this always throws off the accuracy. I am new to this type of ML and don't know all the ins and outs yet but it seems that these work best for me.

I am wondering why you would have a delay with other primers?Maybe someone on here could answer that? Have shot a bunch of differant savages since they came out and never had a delay problem. It would interest me because I set some savages each year for other people and If I ran into that I would know what was causing it. I have been useing mostly win primers mainly because richard and I split a case. But with the 45 cal recently I have been useing the cci m because they come out easier after firing. Most of the time the wins don't want to come out easy.Probably could put in a differant breech plug in and the out come would be maybe differant. The wins come out ok in my 50 cal. Have tested win cci and fed and have gotten the same accuracy with all of them.

CCI, and federal make up most of my cache but have some Win. I like to stick with the CCI as they are pretty hot and do a good jov with smokeless, even use them in my smokey inline guns. Don't have any Rem., Chedite, Wolf etc... so can't comment on them. 10

I have mostly used the CCI-M, but have used a couple of hundred Federal 209 A when I ran low on the CCI. Not much diff, far as I can tell . Last week, I bought a couple of hundred Win to try in a few book powder loads I want to try in the 45. BH
