50 inches is the minimum in Alaska, on the first hunt, a bow hunter did take a bull, The horns not pictured here, shipped out with hunter, by law the meat must be shipped first, the bush plane picks it up and the hunter You can get close to them, since they have never seen a human, and you dont look like much to a 1500lb Moose

I bring home the back strap and fillet, the rest 500 t0 700lbs goes to the local hospital and friends of the guides. Last year I brought home just 39lbs. Excellent meat, but must be prepared right, Meat has very little fat, we add bacon to it. Smoke is an expert on the meat.

I was fishing in Gaspe Last year August and one of my guides brought me some moose steaks that we made along the Cascapedia river, wow were they good. By far the best meat i have ever had. I am a conisuer of game and I was impressed especially from a cheap grill along the river.

Load up your Savage, and get lots of meat. One year, a gent from France, took all the meat, horns and cape, back to France, That had to be quite an air freight tab. They have butcher shops in Fairbanks that cut and pack the meat.

Never had moose,being a Midwest Guy, I've had bear and Elk. Love the Elk!! Is Moose meat similar to Elk? If my two sons get out of college,maybe I could go to "MooseLand". ;D

Mark, in my opinion, I'd rank elk as #1, followed by deer, then moose, this just based on the grain and texture of the meat, not by who or how it was prepared........................again, my opinion only.

In Canada fresh caught Walleye tasted the best In Moose Camp, the meat is better than Chateau Brein at the Capital Grill Caribou sausage is the best, no matter where its eaten This from a gent who is not supposed eat more than 4 ons of meat every two weeks....no salt The golden years are here.

Each year we get to see some Griz, but it not a huntable population.
One year I got to watch a Griz walk pass our position, It was great, needless to say the camera's where a half a mile away, When you watch Moose or Caribou or even Wolfs as they move or feed they look around, Not Sir Griz, he is the king and knows it, he moves where he wants when he wants. one passed about 100 yards from our position, I stood up to watch him in the bino's, he saw the movement, stopped, got up on his hind legs, looked at us, I guess he decided we did look like food and just walked away, they have a lovely gate to their walk, you can see the muscles in their shoulders rolling. It was one of the highlight of that trip, The Moose I took the next a day, was the cap of a perfect trip. I wish every hunter could go at least once to Alaska.....Truly God's country Marty
