Here's a Buffalo I got 2 weeks ago with the savage, shot at 85yds with 43.0gr 5744 250xtp book load. He ran about 30yds and fell over dead, the shocker was I had complete pass thru.

Very Cool! Amazing how much a book load can do isn't it. Mike

That is shocking! I have had them not pass through under 85yds.The buffalo gods were good to you! Putting the smackdown on one of those buggers is high on the list!

Amazing performance from the xtp on that buffalo. What was the wound channel like? Hit any ribs on it's way through? Was the exit a pretty big hole?

Thx guys, rangeball, didn't hit a rib going in but it blew one out the other side, left a hole about the size of a golf ball. He was spewing blood until he fell over dead

Nice Buff There!! Very impressive performance with the 250 XTP too!! I wouldn't have bet on a pass thru with a Buff. Well Done!

I am surprised to say the least, In my penetration test even the 300gr. was one of the poorest penetrators, and broke apart. You must have made a perfect shot, good for you.

Nice Buff! Just curious as to your choice of bullets? While I think I would be comfortable with using the 250 gr. XTP myself, from all indications of members on this forum, I seriously doubt anyone would recommend it? I would have expected you to use a 300 BO, Remy or 300 Hor. .458 bullet? Just goes to show you there is a lot of supposition on what does and does not work! Opinions ;D Good show! Richard

Richard Richard, I was working up a load with .458 remmy's Harvester BCR and reloader 7 by the time I got the load I wanted I realized I only had 5 bullets and sabots left so I place an order with cabelas and it should have gotten here in time for the hunt but it got delayed, so I figured 5744 and a 250xtp was gonna have to work because that's what I had on hand, and sure enough it worked. I got everything resighted back in the day before I left on the hunt. And I by no means underestimate the 250xtp I've seen it drop alot of animals
