I have been working on this all summer.I am ready to drop this barrel down my well.I have .40 sst and xtp bullets.I have tan mmp and harvester blue smooth and cr sabots. All are loose fitting.I cant get enough knurl to make them tight. The only way i can get a tight fit is by paper patching.I am patching with printer paper at this point. With the paper pulled snug around the bullet i get a measurement of .4075-.408.even this is not overly tight maybe 45lb to load.My best consistency has been with the paper and blue cr so far.But even that is a reach It might put 2 shots within an inch. but the next 2 will be 8 inches high.I have been using H4198 57 -63 grains.I want to try some .410 xtp's but have been unable to locate any.I think the would load in my barrel without resizing.Any suggestions.

Why not try setting it up to go sabot less? You should be able to get a .45 bullet sized and knurled to fit it? Richard

Have you tried laying a big bastard file to it? I can gurantee that I can get that bullet up to .456 by leaning on my 12" file! Richard

What about resizing .458 bullets for sabotless?

How 'bout a 458 cal bullet? Sabotless. A BO sabotless would be a pretty sweet setup.

Are you pp ing with a roll patch or cross patch. one layer or 2 or 3? Try card stock? Knurl and patch? bunch of combos but hunting season is getting close. What is working best so far? boolit/patch/knurl/sabot? Yeah, the .410 bullets or sabotless might do better. Good luck and updates appreciated. 10

Here are a few problems that I had with mine. The first was I had to have SMI QLA it so that it wouldn't mess up the sabot when starting to load. The second was that I had a extended length breach plug made so that the sabot was not going past the rifling (shoulder area). I also notice that in my barrel the breach end is a lot looser than the muzzle end.

Billy, I had the same frustration with my .45 Rem 700ML. I had to go with .410" 210 XTP's. It solved all problems. I've never had a ML shoot this accurate. It shoots well with Harvester smooth blue or crushed rib. The guy that facilitates our .32ACP conversions at Denny's Sporting Goods called me yesterday and said he got in a shipment of .410" 210gr XTP's. You could give him a call at (330) 534-3707 in Hubbard,OH. He's saving two boxes for me. Good Luck.

Well i feel a little better about it this afternoon.I knurled some .45 xtp bullets. i fired 5 shots.this is the first time it has ever fired anything that could be called a group.I think i can hunt with it now.I still have a couple of weeks before our ML season opens.I have some .410 xtp's on the way.Hopefully they will arrive in time. But after today i feel like sabotless will work.Although it is a chore to knurl bullets. Thanks everyone for your help.Im going to try a few more this evening.Ill let you know how it works. And i hope my wife believes me when i tell her that there is always extra sabots in the pakage.Billy

Parker does some custom diameters, don't know if they could go a large as you need, but it would be worth a call if the XTP does alright and you want something more aerodynamic.
