Marty...............Good deal! The next time you talk to "Ty", ask him why three separate E-mails to Ryan Keele, Randy and his wife have gone un answered? My question was about bulk packaging of those bullets in 50 or 100 count plain boxes with no sabots at a somewhat reduced price! Paying for all that plastic packaging and useless sabots really S%$#@%s Richard

Well, how about this? I just went back to my e-mail to see if anything new came in and..........Low and Behold, I got the below message from Ryan Keele at Barnes:
Hi Richard,
Sorry for the delay. I did not see your original e-mail, but occasionally my e-mail program does funny things. It looks like this is something that we can offer. Recently we started to offer the 50 cal (.451) MZ and TEZ muzzleloader bullets in 75 packs without sabots, and doing the same in 45 cal just makes sense. We are in the process of setting up a new SKU number for these bullets. The MSRP is going to be $65.00 per 75. It will most likely be a day or two before these make it to the website for sale. I will write you another e-mail as soon as this is complete. Again, sorry for the delay and thank you for taking the time to write us. We always appreciate hearing from our customers.
Sincerely, Ryan Keele | Consumer Services / Tech Support

Midsouth has 195 Barnes for sale for $19.78 per 24. If you do the math it looks like Barnes is the one saving money on the bulk bullets. ...... Midsouth @ .82 a bullet Zen

I wonder if the flat base bullets will become standard, or if they will be a custom run? Big companies are usually months, if not years, getting design changes filtered out to the general market. That, and the bulk packaging is good news. At 80 cents apiece in bulk, Barnes is probably going to have a higher gross profit margin than on the small packs. Fancy packaging costs! Boarhog

Question, which of the bullets (.451) MZ and TEZ are the Desired choice or is that part of the review process trying to see which is better? sorry for coming in late trying to catch up. tdillinger, This discussion pertains to a change in the base radius that some have seen in the .400 dia 195g Barnes MZ Expander. This is the "go-to" bullet that many of us use in our .45 cal Savages. The .451 MZ (250g and 300g) and TEZ (250g & 290g) are for the 50 caliber guns. Its kind of been a crap shoot on whether or not these bullets will shoot in the 50 cal Savage. Some barrels like em and some don't. The key to getting these bullets to shoot seems to be using a tight fitting sabot (either an MMP HP-12 or the Harvester Red Crush Rib are probably your two best choices for sabots), and some have gotten good success by rolling the bullets between two files to add a light knurl. This increases the bullet diameter a little bit and also allows the bullets to "bite" the sabot. Another Barnes bullet that some have had success with is the .451 275g XPB. This is a pistol bullet designed for the Smith & Wesson .460 Magnum hand gun. However, when it comes to Barnes bullets in the 50 cal Savage the .458 300g Barnes Original Semi-Spitzer paired with either an MMP Orange sabot or the Harvester Black Crush-Rib has no equal.
