I recently purchased a blue/syn ML-II to use in the upcoming ml season. The stock is so flimsy that it effects poi unless I position the sandbags right in front of the trigger guard. This erratic accuracy takes me off of the paper if I get too far out on the stock. Even with the sandbags all the way back I get 3" groups with the "standard" savage 300gr loads with 5744. Is there a way to stiffen/bed this stock to make it more accurate and consistent, or is there a way to get a plain aftermarket or factory wood/laminate stock to fit to my gun without paying an arm and a leg. Money is definately an object.
Thanks and God Bless, Ryan

There are way to do it, but unless you can work with fiberglass and resins or bedding compound, it can be somewhat labor intensive. A better alternative is the DuraMax synthetic stock by Bell and Carlson. Their forend is quite rigid. You may also want to try "hoggin" out the "meager" barrel channel in your Tupperwear stock to gain some clearance. A wooden dowel or piece of PVC pipe and some 40 or 60 grit sand paper will give you some needed clearance. Richard

I'd thought of that as well, but didn't know if it would fix it since it can still flex

I just fitted a Boyd's FW Thumbhole stock to one of my 50s. It was on sale, finished, for $79.00 plus freight. The downside is, it had no pillars in it, and was quite a bit of work to install pillars and bed. Do you know if their reeplacement stocks come with pillars? Boarhog

Was kinda hopin to get out cheaper than this. I like the idea of "hoggin out" a little bit, but was hoping that someone had a recomendation of how to use an epoxy or fiberglass resin to stiffen it up and bed it. I imagine that the ramrod could impede this process, so I was seeking some advice from someone who had more knowledge of this procedure.

If you want to get an aluminum tube the ramrod will fit, and epoxy it into the barrel channel, that should stiffen the fore end considerably. Some have used a spring loaded plunger, and ground a detente groove in the rod to secure it. I plan to do something along those lines on the Boyd's Thumbhole I just finished. Boarhog

easton I have gone down this road.... I ended up putting the B&C Duramax stock on and having it bedded (It hasnt got a ramrod tube yet. )The Tupperware stock is in the garage with an aluminum tube down the forend up to the recoil lug. And then machined out for bedding. It just isnt what I wanted to end up with. Still need's to be finished up and a ramrod detent figured out. If you do a search on my name maybe you can see the picture's..... I'll tell you what...if you like what you see... send me a $20 bill to cover packaging and shipping and I'll just send it to ya.
