Do most here use IMR4198 in their smokeless muzzleloaders?
If so you may want to check out Widners in TN. They have a special going on right now for a Swiss powder that they says burns like IMR4198 and it $119 for a 8 lb jug.............Here is what they say........
SPP210 8lbs Swiss Precision Powder (Exclusive) $119.00/8lb
Brand New Exclusive Item
This Cylindrical Rifle Powder is Equivelent to IMR4198 and has many uses, testing has shown it to be very consistant and extremely accurate in a wide variety of cartridges ranging from the .223(5.56x45) to the 30BR but is not limited to these loadings. Consult your reloading manuals for IMR 4198 loadings.
This is an Exclusive Widener's Reloading offer, $119.00 is an Introductory price !!
From the Desk of Chris Lee: This powder is spectacular !! I was able to do some testing of this powder in South Dakota earlier this year. It showed no signs of pressure due to the extreme temps out on the prairie compared to our East TN weather and the accuracy produced was phenomenal. The BR world is sure to jump on this product. Don't miss out on this, you may just change your preferred accuracy powder.
I thought this might be a deal for some of you guys that burn a lot of IMR4198. I am just getting started with the smokeless ML thing and don't reload anything as of yet with 4198 type powder. I wonder how it would work in a 6.5 Grendel???

Most, not all, use H-4198 of the two! The IMR version has produced around 100 fps less velocity then Hogedon.Herman just tested both last week and that was what he got. Now who knows, this stuff may work well? They can only give an approximate on what it is equivalent to? It may be as good as the "H"? Somebody need to buy a jug and run some tests for the board. I tend to use mainly duplex loads with other powders so I'm not about to be the "guinea pig ;D" Richard

I may buy some myself. I only have one pound of 4198 and once I get my rifle together and start shooting it a pound won't last long. Then again I may be putting the cart in front of the horse buying 8 lbs of a untested powder.
Just thought I would give everyone a heads up. Maybe it will benifit someone..........
