38 cal 158 gr horn xtp in a 45 cal blue sabot. It is not a step down cup so I thinkthe sabot was made by Harvester and it is a thick bugger. These may be old bullets and sabots. They were only 8.99 for 20., Found them in a shop south of Chesapeake Va. I bought 3 three boxes. A 158 gr bullet out of a 45 cal with smooookless powder ought to zooooooooom along at a pretty good clip

I haven't tried it myself, but it has been said on this board, that too much plastic between bullet and bore equals blown sabots. Chuck41 said he has had good luck with 44 in a 50, but with lite loads. Sounds like it would be fun to try though. Start low and work up. Any kind of shooting beats the Bride's Hunny Doo Jar! Boarhog

There are lots of really good 357" bullets around. I especially like the 180gr fp bullet that I use in my Rem 35. Great deer load at the 2200fps of the Rem. Would be much better out of a Savage at 2600 - 2900. I would love to have some 40/357 sabots, but unfortunately that is not currently in the cards.
Let us know how you do. Lots of folk would be interested. If you keep your loads relatively mild they will probably do OK just like the 50/40 sabots, but if you try get max velocity out of them you will likely have lots of sabot failures like many of the other folks on the board have reported. .100" reduction with plastic sabots is a lot of stress for a soft little old sabot to handle at our smokeless pressures.
