A member on another forum pm'ed me and asked if i had any interest in trying the .500" Hornady FTX 300gr bullets in my rifles. I figured what the heck! I got them in the mail today and took 1 shot at 100 yards with 150gr T7 pellets just to get an idea where i was hitting. This evening i came back out with 90gr BH209, Standard CCI Primers * Must be that .035" Flash hole  * and the .500" FTX. They load easy in the Accura's barrel but mid way down, they tighten up a bit. No problem reloading with the borrowed ramrod from my Hunterbolt. For an experiment with a new bullet, wow do they shoot tight! I did not allow any cool down time either. With proper cool down, its pretty scary to think about the accuracy they would offer in my Accura. 100 yards, A bit hard to see shot #3, Pulled the target up and snapped a picture as the #3 shot is much easier to see. Shots 1 and 3 are touching.

Those bullets look awfully familiar I had a strong feeling they would shoot at BP sub velocities. Thanks for testing them. Another load to consider for my buddy's dad's accura we'll be wringing out soon. Did you shoot them as is, or knurl them any? Did you use any of the veggie wads between the powder and bullet?

Shot them as is, no wad or anything. I will buy a box later on and see how those wads you sent me work with them.

I'd like to try those in my Savage and my Sidekick over a dose of BH209.

Got some 325gr Barnes .500" comin in for some tests. This is fun though! Gives you even more options for sabotless bullets.

I'd like to try those in my Savage and my Sidekick over a dose of BH209. Depending on the lands of your savage, you may have to knurl them up to get a good tight fit. I sent some to onecardchuck awhile back, he tried them in his .503 savage with SML powder, didn't get the accuracy he wanted, even knurled up.

Is tht the same bullet as the Leverevolution? I've got a box of those in 250 gr., .45 cal. and thought I'd give them a try. Any thoughts?

JohnP Basically YES The 45-250gr has a bit of mixed reviews on game. Most agree the FTX/SST series are very accurate. I only like about 2 of them for game based on reviews and my media tests. One of my favorites for the range is the little 45-200 or 225gr FTX made for 460S&W and 45LC in a lever gun. The 225gr comes in packs of 100 for about the same price as the others in boxes of 50. The little 200gr FTX made for the fast 460S&W might hold up ok on game but the 225s are little grenades. ;D

I have seen people knurl these bullets between to files, does anyone use a knurling tool, and also how much does the knurling process increase bullet diameter? I tried one of these bullets in my bore without knurling first and the bullet was very loose fitting. I like the idea of sabotless bullets.

I have to knurl them for a proper fit in my Extreme. I only shot a couple because i was getting ready for the season but they look promising sabotless.
