I finally made my cooling rod. I had the copper rod in the garage for months. Set it in a drill on a vise and took it down with a file and sand paper to 0.475. Took a few tries to get a straight wood handle. The range rod is the stock Savage rod with a spin jag. I cut down a universal solid rod to fit the gun with a spin jag, so the stock rod was in need of a purpose. I then added the bullet starter jag to the handle. So far my best loads have been Barnes Originals with 45 gr AA5744, 250 gr Barnes MZ with 44 gr, and a Barnes 275 gr XPB with 42 gr. All with the appropriate MMP sabots. All those loads are within 2 inches at 100 yds with the same scope setting. Choices, choices.
