Have been shooting 69gr h4198 in MLII - just got a new one and was needing some info on the 10x powder. read a little on the tips/hint page but not a lot there. How would recoil compare with 69 h4198 and 300sst to 75 10x and 250 sst. For anyone who has shot 10x please feel free to tell , the good and the bad.

I like it. It is a double base powder and that should make it easier to ignite. Actual recoil will be the same using the same projectile for the most part, but felt recoil may be less due to the longer flatter pressure curve. It is very accurate in my .45 cal. Pressures are somewhat lower and should reduce stress on the equipment. It's my new favorite powder.

I like what little is in the tip/hint section ( unless I missed something) the info that is there caught my attention. RB seems to like it and that's allways a plus. If anyone knows of a link/thread for 10x please post. I did a search but didn't come up with anything

Mountainam.........what charge do you use in the 45 caliber?
This powder seems to work best in heavy doses. Was using 72-75 grains for 300 grain projectiles in the 50 cal. Super fast and accurate but very hard on the shoulder! Doug

I have shot a little bit with 10x, so far I've had terrible groups with it. I'm shooting 5744 now and shooting moa at 100 yards with 300 grain xtps and mz expanders, but when i load 72 grains of 10x it shoots 10+inches to the left? If you're close to east tn, I can give you almost a full pound to play around with. I tryed 75 grains to no avail as well, i didn't see recoil was bad either.

With 300gr .458 Rems it is the most accurate of the slower powders that I have shot in my MLII.
The bad- 78gr with a 250 TMZ only mustered 2450fps at 35*. The worse- when the temp dropped into the teens, velocity dropped to 2200fps. I timed it against H322 sabotless in the .45 and velocity was very close between the two and most seem to duplex H322 in the .50 with 250gr bullets. My opinion, it would be best if duplexed with 250gr bullets if it is not very efficient like it was in my gun.

Kudzu, FWIW, RL-10X is one of my three favorite powders and is the powder that perfroms best with my 290 grain TMZs. I use 72 to 75 grains of 10X with 290TMZs and I have been able to get quite good accuracy out to 200yrds.
I could be wrong , but IIRC the recoil when shooting 290-300grn bullets with charges of H-4198 at 70grns and above as well as RL10X in charges of 72-75grns you are aproaching the recoil of a 375 H&H shooting 300grn bullets.
My 2 best performing powder with bullets weights from 245grn-250grns are H-4198, and IMR-4198, with H-4198 slightly more accurate. I use around 75grns of H-4198 and have acheived far more accuracy than is needed to shoot a deer at 200yrds.
There is a load sheet in the tips & hints section that lists the minimum and maximum powder charge weights with around 90%+ of all powders that can safely be used in the 10ML-II. It was from this list I got the idea to try 10X.

this is also my faverite powder. I use 72gr of 10x with a 300 gr B/O and BRC sabot out of my stock .50 cal. muzzy.2450 fps and 1-1.5 inch groups at 100y and under 4 inch's at 300 y. took a bull elk that scored 320 B&c at 243yards and a 50 inch bull moose at 200 yards and they went less than 40 yards each. I have never had any problems at all with this powder..
