I need a plan? This barrel will be mounted on a factory TW stock and free floated. No bedding or third Pillar. If it does not shoot better than the Savage 50 I will be P!@#$#s. I know that to get the Bug hole groups everyone is bored shooting I will have to do more .This is what I have on hand. H 4198 pre loads of 56 to 60 grs. 40ea 200 Gr SSTs , 10 195 gr barnes, 10 ea Harv smooth and 200 Hars CR sabots.I need a plan, with this limited amount of stuff, how would you go about developing a load? Help please Rusty

Rusty.......................Take what you have and go out and shoot it! NO plan! Any of your pre-loads will work with any of the bullets you have. You have to shoot it and see what works Richard

Deadon
If I was in your position with the limited number of components the 1st thing I would do is put the 195’s aside and start with the 200SST’s. Make this a bullet constant variable for the moment. Because of the low number of blue smooth Harvester sabots I would for the start go with 3-shot groups. As for powder (H-4198) I would go the route of starting with 56grains.
Do 3-shots with smooth sabot and do 3-shots with crush rib sabot. Make sure bore is cleaned and repeat the above two 3-shot rounds in reverse order. Now it’s time to closely examine the targets to see what the groups reveal. Then you should have a good idea with which sabot to proceed with first.
This is just a suggestion for how I would approach this with mentioned limited components like smooth Harvester sabot. Good luck.

Rusty!!! Hooorrraaayyy!!! Glad to hear the P-N is on it's way. ET gave good advice. I found no real difference in accuracy between the smooth and ribbed blue sabots. The CR is easier to load, but the smooth is less expensive. I just ordered some smooth from Midsouth Shooters @ $4.88 per pack.
I am looking forward to your shooting reports! Boarhog/Robert

I would see if I could find a box of 200 xtp's,they will shoot right along with the sst's to 100yds and less cost. Then when you find the grains of power your rifle shoots best try the more expensive bullets. Mine shoots a tad better with the smooth harvestors more than the crush ribs.

Boy I remember the wait for the 45... It seemed like forever (like waiting for water to boil). Dont worry, you have the right components and it will shoot. Double check the basics before taking it out. ring base to recoil lug clearance etc.. Bore site it best you can and stick a target out about 60 yards for the first shot. Also, remember we posts most of the"better" groups and try to forget the bad ones. ;D
The most impressive thing to date for me with the PN has been the lack of crazy flyers I would get randomly with the factory 50. Of course I have probably learned more too since those days(i hope)

Of course I have probably learned more too since those days(i hope) I have a PacNor 45 and a stock 50. Been shooting these things for four years, two with the PN. The stock 50 still shoots a crazy flyer every now and then, the PN always MOA or less unless I pull a shot and I call the pull. I think I have shot two groups over 2" with the 45PN, I just wish the stock 50 would consistently shoot 2" groups.
