I have tried two different loads through my new Muzzeloader. Both of these are very popular with my friends but my gun won't handle them. 48gr of IMR 4227 w/ XTP 300 gr HP which gave marginal results, 4-5 inch group @ 100yds.Then 48gr of IMR 4227 w/FTX 250gr tipped bullet which caused the gun to come unglued. When testing the latter bore was clean. 1st shot relatively on target. 2nd shot off the paper. I then moved into 25 yds and saw that the 2nd shots were tumbling striking the target broadside approx 10 inches off center. What would cause this?Load too hot,too light, sabot failure? I was shooting quickly but did not think the gun was too hot to shoot.

Most would advise against using 4227 because it is prone to mis-fires. If you only have 4227 right now, clean the barrel and back it down to 45 grains and you'll likely do better. Make sure to let the barrel cool between shots. The keyholed bullets are blown sabots.

Dittos for the posts about loads too hot! Need to wait between shots or get a cool rod. Sounds like sabot failure due to hot loads and barrel heat. Also check the "Newbie here" and "accuracy issues" posts here on this page. They also cover what you are experiencing. Spinjag also has romrods. See below. www.spinjag.com/index.php10 ga
