Tried to out do richard today but just couldn't do it.His load of N110(10grs)/N120 (60 grs ) did shoot very good in my rifle also. At 100 the one on the right is with the 200 xtp's and the one on the left was with the 200 sst's,I thought I had shot five but it is only 4 shots. The targets at 200 and 300 I am holding at different points I think next time I can be closer to the dots. That is if I can remember the hold. I was getting over 3000fps with this load if the chrony was reading right. At 100 to 200 I am deer good just useing the cross hairs,at 200 I started holding on the dot but ended up putting the cross hairs on top of the dot, At 300 I shot the first 3 useing the first substintion and they were low,the second 3 I went with the second dot. Allready measured out more of these loads to try again next time.So far I may go with this load or the 64 grs of H4198. I used 63 grs of H4198 lasy year and it worked great.Just a lot slower.

Rangeball...........Try Re-7 over N-110 Its fast and accurate. I probably had not shot that 10/60 duplex in months. But knowing it was in the range of powder weight I have been shooting, I decided to give it a try.........and at that, at 200 yards? Yeah, it shoots good but so do many of the others. It just takes some playing around. Next week I will also drop that 7/64 N-110/N-120 back to 6/64, Herman was trying Soooooooooooooo bad to squeeze that third shot into his first two shot bug hole, he could almost taste it ;D I had my eye stuck in the spotting scope as the trigger released the sear and Bill and I gave an "Oh, S _ _ t!" as it just slipped out of the group But it was still a heck of a group! With a little load development, a good scope and steady rest and a light trigger, these type of groups are very doable with these PN's. Herman is now also doing his ML shooting from a Lead Sled and loves it. I know hunting situations are different and require practice under hunting conditions but for firing 30 to 40 high pressure shots in one morning, the Sled is definitely the way to go. Now, once you have that favorite "Go-To" load developed, just prior to hunting season, break out the shooting sticks and have at it! In the meantime, use the Lead Sled and Cool Rod and shoot all year long. Richard

In both of my 50s, I've had pretty good luck putting 10 gr of N-110 under 55-60 gr of H-4198, or RE-7. In my 45, 60-62 gr of H-4198 usually shoots pretty well, but not as fast as Richard's hotter duplexes.

boarhog, an ignition issues with the 4198 in the .45? How about when it's real cold, like my last sit last year, 6*? I seem to recall 4198 didn't like cold in the .50, and wondering if the same is true in the .45?

Rangeball.........Just duplex it? Say your gun like 64 gr. of H-4198? Drop the the 64 to say 58 or 59 and throw in 5 gr. of N-110. Of course you will need to test it at the range to see how it shoots, but that will give you some degree reliability. Provided it shoots as good as the straight 64 gr. load then just use it for your initial loading or your "first shot" load. Then if you don't want to fool with duplex's in the field, just carry the straight 64 gr. loading for any follow up shots! Richard

Herman and Richard I thank both of you for giving the the good the bad and the ugly. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being proud of the good ones. Everyone should be and I enjoy seeing them it gives me a goal to shoot for, not being able to hunt all I can do is shoot paper and try to be as accurate as I can. I never miss a post and enjoy everyone of them. I kind of get to enjoy through others if this makes any sense to any one else It is my plesure. Jon Jon

Jon I am glad you enjoy the posts.I hope a lot of the members can get something from them. I am not good at writing but try to share what I find out from shooting different loads. You would be surprized what I have learned over the years from reading post on here and other forms. Sure getting a tiny group every once in awhile makes my head swell a little like anyone else would. And that is the point to shooting but you don't know what really works untill you try a lot of other combinations. I posted this to pick at richard a little but really if you get the point it shows that if a load shoots good in richard's or john does rifle that more than likely your'e or my rifle will do the same or come close to it. Richard has done a lot of shooting since he started and kept good records and passed them on for us all.I give him a big A+ and a big thanks for doing it. Muzzleloading season is fast getting here and I haven't made up my mind what I am going to shoot in the 50 or the 45 yet.
