I've got a Savage 50 cal and I just recently got another Savage converted to a Pacnor 45. The Pacnor is a standard dd with a 25" barrel. I shoot N120 in the 50 cal and wanted to shoot it in the Pacnor. I have been working up a couple of loads and have got 70 gr of N120 shooting at 1" 3 shot group at 100 yds. I've also shot a couple of duplex that shoot under 1'' at 100 yds. The problem is that I'm running low of N120 and can't find any. I need to save what I have left to make sure that I have some for the 50 cal come hunting season which is only 5 weeks away. I have seen where some people are using 4198. I have a can of IMR 4198 and shot 62 gr for a 2" group at 100 yds. Is there any difference between IMR and Hodgons 4198? What is the max that I can shoot in the Pacnor 45 and the speed if known?

I've only shot the H4198 (I have IMR but haven't tried it). DaveD recommends 56-63gr of the H with 195 or 200 gr bullets. I get about 2700 fps with 63 gr. Similar weights of R7 will give you similar results if you've got any of that.

etj401............Have you tried looking at the Load Information site on this forum? There are plenty of choices. I could easily live without N-120 for my .50 or my .45's H-4198 will easily replace N-120 in the .50 and the .45.................Re-7 over N-110 in the .45 is a good one! If V V can't get the stuff in the stores? Its their loss! Richard dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=loads&action=display&thread=4397

Layed down behind a train once too.I think I finally got it. I have looked at your loads 001 times, I mean 100 times. All kidding aside it finally clicked. I could not figure what all those thingys 10/60, 5/59 meant and was to stupid to ask. Don't know why, I have ask dumber questions. Anyway, enough ramblin Russ. I GOT IT and thank you, Rusty
