No two guns are the same. I managed to figure out how to get these nosler partitian bullets to shoot in my remington smokeless with the shilen barrel, but the same magic didn't work so well with the latest Krieger build.
The gun handles pretty much every thing I put down the tube with the exception of the tougher jacketed bullets especially the nosler and swift bullet.
The way I overcame the problem with the shilen was to concave the base of the bullet which seemed to aid in allowing the bullet to obturate, but no luck with the krieger, possibly the barrel is more consistant or polished to a higher degree I don't know and cannot explain it.
When I first attempted to shoot the noslers I couldn't even get them to fire in the gun, no matter how tight the fit was to the bore, I litterally pounded them down the barrel.
Normally with the concaved base the back of the bullet flares out after ignition and fills the bore to enable the bullet to grab the rifling and the rest is just a matter of setting up the scope after finding a load that keeps every thing nice and tight. I found that with this rifle concave wasn't enough and on to stage two where I had to flare out the thin edge the concave created and rolled it out past the diameter of the bullet , then once the bullet was seated in the barrel the bullet actually engraved the flared edge and scraped down the bore until seated on the powder charge.
Here are some pics of recovered bullets, all are concaved but the ones that weren't flared didn't obturate and didn't engrave on the rifling these bullets keyholed. The bullets that did obturate , did engrave and accuracy was around
1 1/2 - 2" I can work with that and get a minute of moose load for sure.
The last target I shot ( the two holer) was what I finished off with the last premeasured loads I had.
I don't know how the guys are shooting solid coppers sabotless without similar experiences.
