whyohe....................Like you never saw a new Savage? ;D ;D ;D (You may be singing a different tune if your first groups are 6" ;D) Seriously, based on the information on this forum, you should have a good foundation for a solid first outing. Good luck! Richard

Welcome to the game Swampman! Good move! I got my 1st Savage July 09. Now I have another Savage and a SML barrel, .45 cal, for my Encore. I have shot BP for over 50 years. I found the Savage shooting smoleless is a very different beast from MLs shooting BP and subs. I was very frustrated with my initial efforts to get it to shoot consistently and accurately. However with the help of this board and a lot of searching about and lurking here I began to straighten out the mistakes I was making and now have a very accurate and good gun that is cheap to shoot (I cast my own 300 grainers for shooting in sabots). I shoot pretty much a "stock" gun with very little alteration. I did my own action bedding job, barrel free floated, on the tuperware stock. I lapped/polished the bore. I got one of Macks folding ramrods(really for loading only) and don't keep a ramrod in the thimbles on the gun. I use one of Rossmans cooling rods as a hot barrel is death on sabots and I usually like a reasonable rate of fire when at the range. Sometimes I also do the 20 minute wait between shots to simulate hunting conditions. Thoroughly read and digest the "tips and hints" section. Use the search feature and post questions. The forum membership will be a very good resource. Being primarily a hunter I'm not up to 1/2 moa at 300 yd for target shooting. Here in VA most of the hunting shots are less than 85 yards unless you are "beanfield shooting". Enjoy your gun and post some results, we really like pictures. (Thats why I like Dennys, don't have to read the menu, just pick and point) If the're bad we'll try to help, if good we'll admire and be awed at them. Best-O-luck 10 ga

After shooting your new gun for about a day, the first thing that comes to your head is why is Savage the only major company that makes these things? Most people are downright amazed by them and typically the only thing that keeps people from switching from black powder subs., is that some States still have assine laws that differentiate between smokeless and black powder subs for deer hunting.
Good luck,
