Nothing spectacular but will give you an idea of how the same load with different bullets change POI.
First let me tell you about removing my barrel last week. I had a feeling my headspace might have changed during the course of the last 1700 shots thru my PN .45. I say this because on a couple (maybe three?) occasions I have slightly faced off the shoulder on my breech plug. This of course would allow it to seat further in the barrel and open up the headspace. Anyway, I took the barrel off and cleaned up everything and yes, just touched up the shoulder on this old breech plug again. In setting up the headspace, I tightened the barrel almost a 1/4 turn in . OK!
I also checked on my scope and mounts and rings and noticed that after some 1700 shots my scope had slipped forward about 1/4". Took that off and re-set it with a little (very little) rosin.
So today I get to the range along with Herman and Bill and get everything set up (chrono included) and run into a number of delimas' :
The first shot on my target (using a load that shot about 3" + at 100 yards two weeks ago) was 16" high and 3" to the left?
Also, no chrono reading Slightly readjusted the chrono.........And made a scope adjustment for the elevation. (mind you, it never dawned on me the work I had done on the rifle over a week ago? (did not shoot last week). Fired the second shot (again no scope reading) and found the elevation good but still hitting to the left - some made a correction. Third shot pretty good. 1 1`/2" + at 100 yards and again gave it a bit more elevation. Re-adjusted the chrono and changed batteries. Shot hit good but no reading? A second look at the chrono revealed I had the two plugs interchanged . Fired a shot and still no reading? Went to pull the battery out and now found one of the wires on the attachment plug had connection broken at the solder joint . So, finally got to do some actual shooting and chronographing!
ALL targets today were shot at 200 yards.
The load was 16/59---N-110/Re-7 along with the plain blue Harvester.
Target #1 was shot with a 200 gr. XTP
#2 with the 200 gr. SST
#3 with the 195 Barnes..............THe first shot was so much higher than the previous two that it just clipped the top of the frame. The remaining four shot were then aimed at the next lower orange dot. You can see where I inked it in based on a measurement. No noticeable cross wind, but this load just wanted to string horizontally as compared to the more uniformity of the first two loads??? The velocity of this load was also somewhat higher (five gr. lighter bullet??)
Target #4 was just another variation of the above load only less total powder weight.
Target five was again, another past load that had shot well at 100 yards.......Did OK, at least with shots 3,4 & 5. Unfortunately, could not get five into the "almost" one inch.
While it was hot and humid, the cool rod permitted shooting to go on without a hic-cup! ;D
