When using BH209 can I shoot T/C Cheap shots and other .429 projectiles for fun?

44cal (ie. .429) bullets work fine in green sabots for the non-smokeless folks, so as long as you're using BH209 I can't imagine why they wouldn't work.
From what I understand, with smokeless it's all about minimizing the gap between the bullet and the lands & grooves. Not an issue with lower pressure black powder subs.

I think it was Chuck41 that had good luck with 44 cal bullets and the green sabots, but with light loads. I intend to try it myself with some of the hundreds of hard cast lead bullets I have laying around.

I have a bunch laying around and I wanted to use them up. I have to use something other than smokeless when hunting in FL so that's why I'm working with the BH209.

Swampman, all the cheapshots I have seen and shot have been .452 diamater. I wasn't aware of T/C swaging them in .429/.430. What sabot do they come with?
Cheap shots will harvest came just fine.

Hummm...I presumed they were .429. I'll have to check them with my calipers. These have a black sabot.

I intend to try it myself with some of the hundreds of hard cast lead bullets I have laying around. Actually I had good luck with .400" inch bullets with the 50/40 sabots. Tried only a few of the 44s with green sabots. As I remember they were OK with light loads that I usually shot, but no better than the 250gr XTP .452" with the std black sabots and I had to remember to keep loads light. I saw no advantage to them, but then I didn't have "hundreds of hard cast lead bullets . . . laying around" That might make a big difference!

I have great luck with Hornady .430" 265gr FTX's using 120 gr BH209 and a green Harvester. Good groups at 200 yds and they shoot pretty flat.I tried them in my Savage with Re7 and the green Harvesters and they gave very tight groups, but then came an intermittant shoot-through just to unravel things. Sometimes on the first shot and sometimes on the 9th shot . You just never knew when your hole touching group was going to go away. They shoot well in tight bored rifle like Knight and T/C with BP subs and BH209.
