I am wondering what type of arrow rest you guys are using. I have QADs on all of my bows but have a problem with the forks slapping the shelf on two of my bows. Been looking at some other options. Anyone hunt with a rest that isn't full containment? If so, how is that working out?

Instead of changing the rest out... try putting some mole skin on the riser, might take the noise away... another option is the whisker biscuit style., but i am not a fan. I also shoot a QAD...

Doug, when I first read your thread I thought of both moleskin and the Whisker Biscuit, also, but I've used both and would stay with the Q.A.D. just like it is. I think, at any range that the deer might hear the drop, you'd be close enough that he couldn't react before the arrow got there. If you do use moleskin, just be certain it doesn't interfere with the vane's clearance.

i dont like the drop-smack also & i am working/looking for the best solution, so far mine is this,go to the hardware store & get some of these little coil springs that are packaged 3 or 5 to a pack about a 1'' long, they are about the diameter of a pencil, run some double sided adhesive tape on the bowshelf, cut spring to approx 1-1/2-2-1/2 coils depending, slap coil on bowshelf in best place to absorb the smack, then cut a soft foam earplug to fit inside the coil with a little hanging over the top of the coil, best remedy so far in my findings & make sure after a few shots no fletching contact,if so decrease the coil. i think the coil im using is a #c566

Here is my favorite rest, Doug. A Pro Tuner with Jesse Mount and 3-D/Hunter launcher. It's not for everyone but it's extremely rugged and reliable. I like the new Trophy Taker Smack Down FC too. Here's a Pro Tuner shown on my Bowman target bow.

Boy.....you have a good camera. I know that I am rather dense but I can't figure out how that contraption works. I thought the Pro Tuner was a blade type rest.

Doug, You're not dense; the Pro Tuner normally uses a target style Lizard Tongue Launcher. Mike brought out the 3-D/Hunter style launcher for those bow hunters, 3-D shooters, and target shooters that were tired of the wind blowing their arrows off the lizard tongue rest. Since the 3-D/Hunter launcher is so long, it contacts the shelf of the riser unless you use the long style Jesse Mount that allows the 3-D/Hunter launcher to remain behind the bow's arrow shelf where it belongs. It looks kind of strange but it works great, lol. ;D The camera is a Sony Digital with Zeiss lens; it takes a decent pic.

OK gotcha.......I thought that was an arrow holder. Some non-capture drop down rests have a small contraption to hold the arrow in place before the rest picks the arrow up and ready to shoot. Very nice looking arrow rest.

I am going to dismantle a QAD from one of my bows. and installing a G5 Expert to try to quiet it down. I hate the noise that a bow makes at release. That is one of the things that I didn't like about shooting a crossbow. Will report on how well I like the new rest after I use it.
What type of string silencers are you guys using if any?

i was going the same route on the g5 rest but it would not fit on my hoyt. string silencer's,in my testing none has done a better job than the old rubber catwhiskers-disadavantage-they ball up more on these modern bows but work well. please note also-if your bow has a "string tamer" you will get string slap noise, mine was removed & lost 50% of the noise that i was blaming on the rest! note-some can not removed if string starts to slap your wrist or hand usually do to low brace height riser's

Doug, I have a G-5 Expert II on my Bowman hunting bow and love it. It's the quietest on the market, is reliable, and handsome. The slot is long enough to double mount the rest to the riser like I prefer to do with all my rests.

Paul.....that is one cool looking stabilizer. Glad to know that you like the G5 rest. They also make one especially to fit the Hoyts. I am thinking that some of the "slap" that I am hearing might be my string tamer. Today I put on some monkey tails which took out some of the string noise but still hear the slap noise. Tomorrow I think that I am going to take it off just to see how it shoots and sounds. Thanks for the input guys. Two months till first day of archery hunting season in Virginia.

Still waiting for the G5 rest to arrive in the mail. Decided to use a heavier arrow today to see if I could do something about that slapping noise on my Elite GTO set at 62 lbs. Cut an Easton Lightspeed 340 spined shaft down to 28" and tipped it with a 125 gr Magnus Stinger and it flew great. I was actually shooting 4-6" groups from my deck out to 70 yards consistently and the 402 gr arrow did help reduce the slapping sound of the string against the stop.
Now I am going to have to apply another HHA site tape to my slider sight because these heavier arrows drop pretty drastically compared to my 340 grain Victory HV arrows and I have four fletched the Eastons with Rayzr feathers which really slows them down at long range. The Razyrs do a very good job at stabilizing the fixed heads.
USPS has gotten kind of slow lately and still waiting for the G5 Expert rest to arrive so that I can install it on my New Breed Cyborg. That is one sweeeet shooting maching and I will take some pics of both rigs when I finally get settled on accessories and suppressors. Nothing that I have will compare to the bows that Sagitarius has displayed as far as the cool factor is concerned but my hope is that they will perform in the field because we all know that I am addicted to this stuff.

I shoot the QAD also. I've shot several types of rests over the past 22 years, and the QAD has been my favorite by a long shot. No pun intended. Second favorite would be the whisker biscuit. Not the most accurate, but a great hunting rest. Third would be the TM Hunter style rests which were great back in the day, but are far out dated now. I can no longer remember what it's like to hunt with a rest that doesn't give me total containment.

The biscuit kills a few fps but keeping the arrow where it needs to be with the excitment of Deer in range is well worth the trade off. Just happens the QAD HD is the best of both worlds my 2 other choices; ripcord & hostage rests
