I tried them, but they just fell down the barrel. I might try again since I built an ET knurler, but I still doubt it'll work. I would have to knurl them up to about .510. I also ordered some Barnes 300 gr .500 TSX to try, but never did after realizing how large the bullet has to be to get a tight fit. If you don't mind shooting 450 gr bullets, you might try the bullets designed for the 505 Gibbs. I think they are .510.

I am strictly speaking from memory so I could very well be wrong, but if you wish to give a .50 cal bullet a try in the 10ML-II the only non-modified or non-resized bullet I think has been tried sabot-less with success has been the Thor bullet.
The only reason I do not give Thor bullets a try is I have so much $$$ tied up in .45 cal bullets & sabots, I am afraid if they shot as well as my best performer, the advantages a sabot-less bullet offers would be to strong for me to resist and then what would i do with the all the XTPs, TMZs, S-Fires, BOs, that combine = almost 1000 ML bullets in my inventory.
I suggest you ask about Thor bullets performance in the Savage and see what you come up with. They are pricy and cost IIRC, well over a $1ea.

I had forgotten about the Thor, even though I plan to try them myself. I think it is Onecardchuck that has done quite a bit of testing with them.

Im with you on 45 sabotless, but CO has the 50 cal restriction on elk. I've shot no less than a hundred Thors, and they are acceptable, especially since its an open sight only state for muzzleloaders. I picked up some of the FTX 50 300s to try, bore size can be a factor in the sabotless game, Ray

boarhog,
I have .510 coppers that are WAY too big to go down my .50. have 100 of them.
If you are interested, I will send you some free.
PM me.
If they work I'll give you a steal on the rest of them

I tried them as is since my lands on my SMI are .500 and the bullet measured dead on .50. Used a veggie wad over the powder. Every shot went boom, but they didn't shoot very tight. I had planned to try them knurled up a bit to .501 but since trying the Thor's and witnessing their accuracy and stellar terminal performance, I haven't gotten around to it yet. Yes the Thor's are pricey, but once you have your base load worked up, I more than willing to spend a bit more than a dollar per deer to know it's going down
