I have been lurking on this forum for a long time and bought my Savage because of this forum.
I just want to say thank to all of you for a great forum and good solid advice. I would probably still be shooting this rifle if it were not for Doug's
Back in the summer of 2004 I bought a new smokeless Savage ML 10-II. This is the only gun I used to hunt deer with the last six deer seasons and have shot over a thousand rounds from the bench with it.This rifle shot best with a good tight fitting sabot. At the end of deer season last year I noticed that when I pushed the sabot and bullet down the barrel it was tight until, it got about two inches off the power charge and then it would go very easy the last two inches.
When I cleaned the bore with a good tight patch it had a three inch void at the breach end of the barrel. I called Savage and told them about this and sent it back to them, on May 13th. On June the 10th I got my rifle back with a new barrel and breach plug. I am well pleased with my Savage and their costumer service.
Thanks again Oldsnow.

What you're describing is a barrel ring or bulge in the classic spot, just ahead of the breech plug in the area of the rear sight. Glad Savage took care of you. It would be great to figure out what causes some of these unexplained bulges, I know the easy explanation is a double charge or bullet but sometimes that's just not the case. Good luck with your new one.
