It's probably a good thing that Bh didn't exsist when I got my 1st savage as I might of never got a savage and I do like my pacnor 45. Now it's not just the BH but BH sitting on top of a Gen II lehigh plug. To be fair this extreeme is one of a kind. I didn't care for the way it sat in the factory stock so I free floated the barrel and bedded the recoil lug in a MK 85 laminate stock (I did remove some stock for the bolt) . Load 70 gr by weight, under a 44 cal 265 horn in a green havester sabot. Every group overlaped by 50% except one and I threw that one bad. My SS extreeme does this also. The barrel on that one is free floated too and the lug bedded in.

Dont be afraid to use BH209 in your Savage. I find it more consistent and accurate then Smokeless powder in a Savage.

You used B209 in a MK-85 ? I thought that was only for use in a bolt action ML , what breach plug did you use( 209 or cap 11)? How was the blow back?

bloodtrailer, it is an extreeme which is a bolt gun, I just put it in a MK 85 laminate stock. I had to do some dremel work for the bolt but it fit's just fine. Sort of a really cool looking gun the black laminate and the blued barrel complement each other

I see no reason why BH-209 can't be used in an MK-85, is there any warning to this effect? I saw a guy using it in a cheap CVA and he did fine with it and as far as I am concerned the MK-85 is far superior and better built than the older CVA's Lou

I used bh209 in my disc extreme last year.I had misfire and hangfire issues.I missed a big ten point because of a hangfire.I killed a doe with it but it took 3 cci 209m' to make it go boom.I never had any problems until the weather cooled off.I also had some corrosion issues with bh209. Because i bought into the hype that it is not corrosive.Wrong.Treat just like any other bp sub in that department.Billy

a lot of the hang fires i read about, the shooter was using winchester primers. If you get hang fires with the W209's enlarge your flash hole to .035" its the #65 drill bit that you will need.
All i use are CCI 209M's and they are excellent primers.

BH209 should not be causing corrosion. I know folks that leave their barrels dirty for months with no issues.

That may be the case but the BH209 didn't cause the rust.

It's hard to say. Rust can happen in the absence of any powder fouling at all. Bare metal rust.

Just maybe maybe bh209 or its residue absorbs moisture.Just because the company makes the claim that it does not doesnt mean its true. You have a nice day

It says right on the label that "any residue can trap moisture depending on humidity conditions." Like all smokeless powders it's non-corrosive. If we store a gun in the wrong place it can rust regardless of the powder used. It also says to clean as soon as possible. I know of guns left an entire year without cleaning that didn't rust.

Blackhorn209 will rust/corrode your barrel if put into a gun case while there is still moisture in the bore. My brother in law did that and found rust/corrosion the next time we went to clean his gun out.
BH recommends that you run an oiled patch down the bore prior to storage.
I have gone through 2 cases of BH209 and all of them had the warning labels.

I'm a supporter of the great powder called Blackhorn 209. I leave my barrel dirty during the hunting season but will clean it about once a week to deter corrosion. Never noticed anything that would alarm you after only a week. After cleaning I fired a fouling shot prior to using for hunting again. I've shot two bottles of the stuff so far.
I did a dumb thing after the season though. I think I did not clean the barrel after I put the gun into the closet the very last time I believe thinking it would be used again and that did not happen. Well I pulled it out a couple of weeks ago to give it a once over and I did notice that the barrel was distinctly brown and not black like residue from the powder burning. First three patches with muzzleloader bore cleaner were very dark. After that the patches were pretty faintly colored but still removing residue. There was also three spots that were now rough. After about 50 swipes with a bore cleaner it has smoothed out mostly. Still a blemish and able to b\]\e felt when running a patch down but I oiled the barrel down and will run a stainless brush down it to see if I can get it even better.
This is only my experience and given the pluses of the product such as no swabbing between shots, no crud ring, higher velocity and as accurate a powder as you can get I'm going to continue to be a BH209 shooter in my Knight Disc.
