This is probably one more of deadons DUMB questions BUT here goes.Has anyone shot out the barrel of a 50 cal savage? How many shots have you put thru your barrel? I hear so much about the pacnors and one day it may be that I will own one but at this time I am all consumed with my 50 cal savage. I have heard for many years about throat erosion with hot loads in center fire rifles wear out a barrel. Has this ever happened to a savage. Is that one more thing that I may have to deal with in the future? Thanks for listening, Rusty and you can believe it or not, I do not stay awake all night thinking of dumb questions, It seems to come naturally

Shooting sabots would make it last a long time I would think. You usually get serious throat erosion with necked cases and high pressures. It would be tough to overheat it shooting sabots, the sabot would melt before the barrel got hot. If I keep shooting my 10ML another 20 or 30 years I might get 10,000 rounds on the barrel. Probly not, I doubt if I can resist switching to a .45 that long.
