Was going to put this in the other thread I started today but didn't have time-So just started a new one to give you fellows something to read. Our buddie bill that shoots with richard and I got some 158 gr 35 caliber bullets so we decided to shoot some in my 45 since I had some sabots for them. I shot a few the other day without any good results with low loads of 2015 and they all were on paper but scattered.Got up a little over 2200 fps. Today we tried 60 grs of 4198 which gave us around 2449 fps.I let bill shoot them because there was very little recoil. The first 3 went 1.159 in with 2 in one hole.we thought we were on to something and it would be a great load for a youngster or lady that couldn't cut much recoil. We don't know what happened but we shot 3 more (think it was 3) and they didn't even hit the target board. I had some wads with me but didn't even think to try them, maybe try that next time. These bullets were probably a ftx in 35 caliber at least thats what they looked like. This is the farthest we have gotten with a 35 cal bullet out of a 45 barrel and smokeless.

This violates RB's 0.050 bullet-bore rule ;D I think that a duplex sabot with a 45 caliber washer under the inner sabot is probably the best way to shoot them...and in a 50 caliber rifle ....at least until someone makes a sabot from a more rigid material ;D edge.

From what I could tell, even if we turned down the velocity a little more to say 22 to 2300 fps, it would make a heck of deer bullet for a youngster or lady who is recoil sensitive. I would bet there are many on this board who have probably shot deer with a .357 mag. and similar weight bullet at a much lower velocity? Heck, you only need to shoot 3 or 4" at 100 yards Richard

This violates RB's 0.050 bullet-bore rule ;D . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . edge. Now if we can just get a 40/357 sabots for us 40 junkies! That fits the rule.
