Was at the range this morning without richard or bill,we are going tomorrow.I had a couple rifles to set up for 2 fellows so I went today too. They were the new marlins in 7/08 caliber and they will shoot. I tried the 225 ftx in my 50 with a fast load of 5/65 with N110 and N120.The first shot was with a clean barrel and I forgot to knurl it. The next 3 went to all most the same spot but a little lower. It gave me 2626 fps with the 50 and 2908 avg with the 45 cal. I had shot the load before in the 45 but had to give it a try at 300 with the 200 sst.I think it will work out to 300 on deer.

Don't really know was dead on at 100 and just guessed to click up 17 clicks, was still a little low so going to guess about 15 inches. But went back to 100 and shot 2 shots side by side and they were about 2 in high.So maybe I need to check the tracking.

Herman: You really have posted some excellent 300 yard groups over the last year or so.

Thanks fellows but like I allways tell you I just get lucky sometimes. Boarhog; the 300 was shot with the same load in the 45 cal and 200 sst. Another load that works great in both rifles is 69 grs of N120,200sst in the 45 and 250 sst in the 50 cal.If you remember richard shot 70 grs last week and shot good for him.

I like the .50 caliber grouping. Have you shot a 5 shot group without knurling them? What sabot are you using?
Am curious: are you using a micrometer to get them to a certain diameter when knurling?
I guess I am thinking it would be nice to get that group without knurling (maybe with a different sabot)
I have been planning on playing with some 225 grain bullets this summer (neverending quest to find the "ideal" youth load), so this thread is very interesting to me. This FTX holds a lot of promise. Wonder how it will perform with a reduced powder charge of 5744.

Dennis Dennis, I have found my youth load in a 50. .40 200 gr XTP knurled to .404, 35gr N110, MMP 40/50 sabot, Fed 209 primer. I'm getting 1875-1900 MV and 1-1/2" groups at 100 yards. With this low MV I think the XTP would give better terminal performance.
