The 45-70 barrel that SMI installed a breech plug in, aint bad. Groups 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 @ 100. I've finally decided that the blue harvester's do a bit better than the tan. It does seem to eat vents fast (20 rounds or so with a standard savage vent) which is twice as fast as the pac nor but other than that this thing works very well. No swabbing between shots (if I do it just messes everything up), loads smooth as butter, I sort of wonder if it's got anything to do with the 100 45-70 rounds I sent down the bore to break it in before I got the plug installed. I've settled on a load of 55 of 4198 behind a 200 xtp I do have a question with all this. The SST shoot to same POI but the barnes shoot about 1 1/2 high seems to me the pac nor works the same has anyone else noticed this???

Barnes shot a different POI in my two Shilens also, about 2" right and high if I recall.
You may want to try the ventliner Leigh has, I know some of the guys were getting some long life from them in their 50cals.

:)rj deffinitely use a quality vent like lehigh and you will get a bunch more shots because with a pr vent i can get 175 shots using 62grs and a 200sst.what break action are you using?

this one is a kp1. I've sort of decided that if I go threw a vent every 20-30 shots, so be it. The verdict is still out on the encore, haven't even decided if it's worth messing with
