Ive been reading on here about the rem 700 ml and I have several questions.
My son has a 700 ml youth model. He is under the impression that they got reclassified as firearms a few years back. Is this true? His is one of the early models as I understand they have tried to bring them back several times.
Secondly his has the old percussion cap model. He does not shoot it anymore because he had numerous misfires while in the field. Yes the gun was clean and fresh caps.
What are some of the currently available 209 adapters that work and how much do they cost? Links???
And last. Has anyone had any success with smokless powder convertions for the rem 700 ml? I like the savage smokless but its not nearly the muzzloader the 700 ml is.

I like the savage smokless but its not nearly the muzzloader the 700 ml is. I'll take a stab, but I'm not aware of the 700ML being reclassified. There is a 209 conversion by a Canadian firm (place eludes me at the moment) or was it Cabela's that had them, they are a drop in, think $50-60ish. There have been a few guys here that have converted theirs to 209's and 32acp cases, most if not all of these will require a new breechplug also. I'm off to work, but try a search in this forum for the places that do them. The 700 going smokeless needs a new, good quality barrel (Pacnor, Shilen, etc), plus a new style breechplug, and a good 209 boltnose conversion.

One of the reasons that you 700ML may not fire is because primer residue and blowback accumulate within the bolt body and impede the movement of the firing plunger. You need to disassemble the bolt body and clean it thoroughly. If you have never taken the bolt apart it is probably rusty inside. I agree with you, I have both the Savage and 5 Rem 700ML's. I like the Remington a lot better. But then it's more like the Ford/Chevy thing. I'll pull up our .32ACP conversion to the top of this page. It will be easier for you to find. I have 2 of the Youth 700ML's and love them for a treestand rifle in big timber.
