I just recieved my mini lathe from BOLTON HARDWARE (put this in your files). This thing is way too mini. Even a small thing like cutting the firing pin rod down is a big job, granted the pin is hard but I couldn't even get it to penetrate with out pushing the tool post back, so I am going to return it,just too small.
The problem for me is that I bought this on eBay with FREE SHIPPING stamped in the window showing the lathe.I was reading the invoice and noticed that the price for the lathe is $457.25, UPS Ground $91.75 (FREE SHIPPING) for a total of $549 which was the advertised price with FREE SHIPPING.
Do you think that FREE SHIPPING will apply on the return?

Al, stuff like this really pisses me off.Normally I just keep my mouth shut and chalk it up as lesson learned but this one burns me and I definitely learned a lesson!

Many might disagree.....I will never again buy from E-bay...Too much deception and corruption for me. It seems that many companies that operate as your's did congregate on e-bay. Zen

Make sure you leave the appropriate feedback on the company and their deception. If you paid with a credit card or paypal there are ways to get your funds returned.

Well I contacted the company about the situation and they agreed to take the lathe back with full refund which includes the original shipping costs so I have to pay for return shipping which is part of the deal.We discussed the apparent deception in the way they had their product advertised and how their invoice was setup. He saw my point and says that they are going to change how they do things.Good thing I ques! We'll see!

I think what you call "deception" is more than likely your misunderstanding of marketing and bookkeeping. We all know shipping isn't "FREE!" there is a cost and that cost must be accounted for. Accounting software takes these prices and applies it to the proper cost categories so the company can accurately report "cost of goods sold".
Sounds as if the company did right by you and there never was any deception.
Just my $0.02
PS craigs list is a good place to find good deals on used lathes if you know what your are looking for.

Well, it sounds like you had a bad experience, but I wouldn't give up on Ebay. It has been a valuable place to me to buy and sell occasionally. Some of the stuff on Ebay is hard to find elsewhere.

I totally understand that nothing happens for nothing in the business world, however free shipping should not cost me $91.75.If they have to get creative in their invoice generation then so be it.I am just weird that way.
Anyway they made it right and were up and up in their communications with me.I will have no problem doing business with them in the future.
Petev,I buy most of my hobby stuff, bike, hunting and tools through eBay when it make sense to do so and have way more positive experiences vs. negative ones.
This post was reactionary,I'm sorry.Ron

normally these companies that offer free shipping have deals with UPS or fedex. They offer these to companies that send packages out every day. I looked into it and when i bought a drill press off ebay the package was 50lbs. I paid a total of $70 for it with shipping. With the rates UPS gives these places, shipping wasnt more than $10 for that 50lb package.
