I'll tell you that Leupold is trying to put one over. In 2008 Leupold bought Redfield but they mainly bought the name and "intellectual property" (all their ideas) and said they were not planning production and refused to honor Redfield's warranty. Now they have brought the name back to try to ride it. The riflescopes are assembled in Leupold's Beaverton, OR plant and follow Leupold's design (if you want a strong one-piece tube you will have to look elsewhere). The rest of the line (binos, spotting scopes and rangefinders) is made overseas in the same plants that make the same items for Leupold.
I have already seen one interview with the head guy of Redfield plugging Redfield's new facility (someone should have yelled "you mean Leupold's"). Like Leupolds marketing they plug the "Made in USA" pretty hard but fail to tell you that it only applies to the riflescopes and then your getting a assembled in the US scope with Chinese glass (I was told by a factory rep {not Leupold's} that as far as parts in a Leupold scope, if it isn't metal it wasn't made in the US).

Your looking at a scope similar to Leupolds Riflemans series with hopefully the same customer support, maybe some minor differences. I just get a little bit POed in my old age when some salesman (even worse, upper management) starts going Pinocchio. If Leupold would just say we will be bringing out the Redfield line as a entry level or a scope for lower budgets and it will be made with the same quality in our plant would be one thing. To stretch things or mislead the buyer is BS. If you were to ask 10 guys where Leupold binos are made I would almost bet at least 9 would say "in the USA" and probly even 2 of them own a pair.
Dacoda says hi.

I have a old pair of Leo 10x Poro bino's, got them back in 88-89, eye pieces have individule click focusing eye pieces.
Really liked them (until I looked thru a pair of Leicas), but they are getting a bit fuzzy inside. Think I'll send them back and see what they'll do.

My son just put one on his H&R Ultra Slugger. Time will tell. He has several Leupold's as well as I . I havent seen it yet . Though he tells me that it is of compareable quality as any of his Leupold's. However does note that the eye relief isnt as generous. I thought when I seen these come out that they might possibly be on either the Rifleman or maybe the vx1 platform. They are what they are...An entry level scope. But I believe it to be better for the $150 price range than most of the other entry level scope's. If they stand behind their product as well as Leupold does Then I wont have any problem trying out some of their product.
