Hey guys I'm getting read to set up my TC New Englander for turkey hunting and found some shot cups in my local toy shop. They were made by White and have ribbed walls. It was made specifically for a White ML shotgun. It asks that you cut pedals in the sidewalls. One of my friends said it should work in my New Englander.
Question is, "Has anyone every used these in any MLs other then a White barrel and do I have to cut them pedals or can I shoot them with out the pedals?
Thanks. Larry

I think that the farther down you cut the petals, the quicker the wad is discarded, and the pattern opens up more. Try shooting a load on paper without cutting the petals then shoot one with the petals cut half way down. Felt wads work nice in a New Englander also.

The Winchoke-Mossberg-Browning choke tubes fit the New Englander. I have a Hastings extended choke tube in mine.

I use post it notes in my NEw Englander and Hawken 12 ga caplocks.
I took a 3/4inch dowel and sanded it to fit easily in the barrel, then use that to wrap a post it note pad around the dowel so it sticks back on itself.
Fold the bottom end over and a dab of tape holds it closed. Then slide the post it wrap off the dowel and fill with whatever amount of shot desired and twist the top closed.
these hold the shot string together a longer time than OS/ OP carding or wads and in cylinder bores like my new englander makes it almost a Mod on the pattern board.
Old shot loads like this can be seen in many museums, one I saw is wrapped in light wire, and Doc White ( white muzzleloading) showed me a few he made up years ago and wrapped with light string, one he wrapped too tight and heavy and it became a slug. LOL, bad on turkeys but pretty neat to see hit the pattern board when you're expecting a pattern not a tear.
the short answer is I don't like plastic wads in my barrels so no, I've never tried Doc's wads in my smoothies, but if you have a good supply of them start byu cutting them all the way down as an old steel wad would be and then cut some half way and compare patterns, and so on til you get the result you want.
Good luck and let us know how it goes, and happy hunting!
